Beating up the little guys

Watch out for the smartly modded and well driven Celica GTS's. 190+whp @ 2400lbs is enough to give an S2k some trouble. Fortunately, most are the measly 140hp GT's.
I got a local kid to take apart his "Evo" after laughing at his pathetic attempt at mimicking a better car. +1 for the REAL Evos. Now if only I could rip off the big stupid wing and GTR labels from a local Mustang.

^Most Celicas that even say GTS in red on the back are still GT's. I see them all the time. There is a guy at my work that has 4K worth of parts dropped into his automatic GT Celica. I don't know why he bothers - for that much more money he could have just gotten the GTS.

A well driven stock GTS can crack high 14's with a best of 14.7 being done so far(haven't kept up with it). With how some S2000 drivers are, I wouldn't doubt a stock one could give an S2k a run for it's money.

^Oh I don't doubt that a GTS could run with an S2000 at all. I've seen so many S drivers that are just - well - they treat the car like it's made of glass. They're scared of it and don't run it like it's capable of being run.
That's REALLY sad that an auto GTS is a 17 second car - laughable in fact. A light 180 hp car that hits 17s? Sad. I don't know why people bother modding auto cars sometimes. I know I did it when I was 17-19 years old back in the late 90s but come on - we're way past that now. This guy is 26 or so and engaged. He has a GTS emblem, painted calipers/rear drums, carbon fiber spoiler, side skirts, header, springs/shocks, exhaust, tons of interior cosmetic stuff, and other misc. that I'm not thinking of. He loves my car; always asks me about it and seems jealous. He could have bought one with what he paid for the celica easily.

I paid the same for my '01 S2k as I did for my '01 GTS, though I got the GTS 2 years earlier. The GTS was great, but it's a car that's lost in the shadow of the RSX-S even though their capabilities are along the same lines.
I went through the whole bodykit phase with that car, then I realized how impractical 18's, lowering springs, and $4k worth of bodywork is. Aesthetically, the most the S is getting is some 17's.
I miss it, but it's still in the family(they loved it too much to let me sell it to someone else). In fact, I've been driving it these last couple days while I have some work done to the S.
