Its hard to compare whos faster on the highway with two similiar horsepower/weight ratio cars.
The car who jumps first will ALWAYS end up walking the one who got a late start. Also, gearing plays an important role, if you are in lower revs; you are getting walked.
Highway runs are good to see whos got a better horsepower/weight ratio, or if you have a big turbo in your car and love to play catch up
From what I have seen at the track the Convertible M3 is significantly slower than the Coupe M3, in most cases it rivals the performance of a well driven S2000.

BMW should have called that car (The M3 Converitble) the M2 1/2. It's a very popular with the poseurs in my area, but then again, so is any car that costs a lot. From a standing start, I can usually pull a full car or so by 60MPH. On the interstates, I pull away pretty steadily, but I couldn't tell you by how much.
The M3 Sedan, Coupe, and Roadster are completely different story. They're all hellishly fast. I'm pretty much even with the Sedan, but I've yet to come across a Coupe or Roadster.
