'97 911 turbo vs s2000
On my way back to the office yesterday I happened upon a black 911 turbo. He was in front of me a ways and was briskly weaving through traffic. I decided to give chase. We both got caught at a light with me still several cars behind. I am not the car enthusiast most of you are but the sight of those seemingly 3 foot wide rear tires and spoiler with turbo embossed under it was a kick. We got under way again and I quickly pulled up close to his bumper. I could see him look into his sideview mirror trying to figure out just what I was. It didn't take long for him to decide that I was worthy because all of sudden he was on the gas. I stayed closer than I thought I should have. He never really walked away from me. Redline first, redline second to the middle of third all the while we were negotiating some light traffic. No question he was faster but it was not humiliating at all. We caught another light he went into the right lane and I went to the left to get alongside but we both had cars in front of us. With my top down I looked over and yelled "what year is that", no answer, again much louder "what year is that", he replied "97", I said "911?", he answered "yep". It's a shame that he didn't reciprocate with questions about my car. His attitude was one of casual disdain. I guess he figures he is at the top of the food chain.

Or was it a typo, what you meant was "Turbo?"

I'm sure it was a real one. Possibly he didn't want to risk it in traffic.
IMO, the 993 was the best Turbo Porsche (400hp) ever. Claimed 0-60 times at 3.6 sec cannot even be matched by the new GT2 456hp 996 (3.7sec). I guess I'm just a true fan of the older air-cooled Porsches.
