350z vs s2000
Last week I was driving my bone stock base model to work @ about 7:30am. I was in the middle lane of a three lane interstate. I see a red s2000 getting on the interstate, and I think to myself, woohoo! He gets on and immediately jumps to the fast lane behind me. I'm thinking he is going to try to fly by or something so I hit it, and when I did he completely let off. So at this point I'm thinking maybe he wants to line up. I slow down and he pulls dead even with me and I look over and sure enough he flashes 3 and I nod. 1 2 3 and were off. It was around a ~60mph roll so I started in third. I slowly pulled all the way through third and continued to pull in fourth and had to let off due to traffic. He was about half a car length or less behind my back bumper. We line back up again and he wants another run, so do I. So I nod and he points to my car and says something about it being faster, and I showed him an inch with my fingers to imply just a little. So 1 2 3 we're off and same results, pulled all the way through third and had to let off before going to 4th. He was around my back bumper and losing ground when I let off. He did a fly by and showed off his brakes and then slowed down and we both gave each other thumbs up and that was that.
Anyway, for me and my base model he was right there with the other s2000s I've raced. Exactly what I was expecting. Also I've noticed with some of the other higher speed races, the faster the races go the harder I start to pull. I assume it's the aerodynamics and power:weight differences. I'm always impressed with how well the s2000s hang though. The s2000 crowd is fun to race because they seem to be good drivers, they like to start even, and they are definitely good sports. I'd like to see the camero/mustang guys give a thumbs up after losing.
Anyway, if the driver happens to come across this post, feel free to reply or shoot me a PM. It would be nice to chat with you. Nice runs.

the more and more that I think about it, I believe it the more aggressive gearing down low that make s2k'z very nice races for many cars. Down low they crack good times. Up top just cause of aerodynamics a 350z's will begin to walk away. but then again its all about drivers and the s2k is a very big drivers car.

Nice run. I've ran only a few Z's and I don't know if they were auto or manual, but I've been able to pull down low (dig) but at about 80 they seem to inch past, not a blow away but like you stated maybe a half car or so. I'd like to get to line up beside a few more (hardtops because the vert isn't even worth the time as it is somewhat piggish).

is it aerodynamics or the 3.5 V6?

Yeah you ever hear about how higher hp matters more than weight at speeds more than 100 mph? The same way a s2000 would pull on a elise over 100 mph but the elise would pull on the s2000 under 100?

I raced 350Z today in ryan's car (stock), on winter tires. the launch was even, and once I gained traction, I pulled on the 350Z. shut down at 70mph I had about 1.5 cars on him.
must be the gearing and power differences. but it was as i expected, as that's the way every decently driven 350Z has done against me in a stock S2000.

At higher speeds weight really doesn't matter anymore so no surprise the more powerful vehicle starts to pull around 80. S2000 definitely isn't geared for higher speeds either.
