3 dead after S2k vs VR6 drag
saw this on another website.. hopefully the s2k driver doesnt get in trouble....
I know most everyone on here is more or less against street racing per se... We all say to "keep it for the track" and what not, but I really just wanted to reiterate that. Coming home tonight from taking my girlfriend home, two cars ahead of me went at it from a stop. S2K vs. a GTI VR6. From what it seemed like, the guy in the 2k was just humoring the gti teen. Needless to say, the gti took off balls to the wall and didnt see the lane merge sign. He went head on with a telephone pole at about 50+ mph in a 25. I stopped as did the 2k driver and called the cops. I got up to the car and reached in to see if anyone was remotely ok. The two people that were in the back, were smashed between the dash and the windshield both with no pulse. I did everything I could do to help, but all to no avail. They were too far gone. The driver and passenger were both thrown from the car and only the driver survived but in very critical condition. I just wanted to take this to as a reminder for everyone. I know it can be fun and all, and Im sure weve all tried it at least. But please, dont. It isnt worth the burden of living with the fact(s) that you killed your 3 good friends. So flame away if you shall...But humor me please. And dont let this happen to you. Ill never forget this...

that sucks. bad. thats why i always suggest, people set up a street race, go to a remote road, without any side roads, and make sure its all clean and clear. because you cant judge the other guys driving skills. and most people cant see 100 feet in front of them. so if someone wants to race in an area like the one in this story, let em make a bi-run. just smile and wave.. yeah you beat me whatever. anyways, i doubt the s2k guy will be at fault, unless he instigated it, and tells the police that. laters, be safe all. 05 is gonna be real good. dave

Its sad... I have stop racing on the streets as well. Last March my friend she was driving a Miata on Attiki Odos (a very famous and new road in Greece) and on a slight curve for an unknown reason lost control and her car went upside down and back once, and end on the side of the road like the car was parked. She was not racing... but the result was to lose her life.
Since then when I see an accident even if there is an ambulance present I always stop in order to help in any way. So last time I was a witness to an accident and I tried to remove the passenger (she was unconcious) until the ambulance arrived. I thought I did something good and went back home. After two days I was informed that she past away from internal bleeding and you know why? Because she was taken to the hospital on a "standby" bed and the doctors didnt act fast to treat her. Two hours!!! This is how long it took them to check on her. Killers, criminals the doctors were that night. I know they are life savers and I should not blame them, but it makes me upset and angry that I could not do anything more than that.
I know this has nothing to do with racing on the streets, but once a close friend of yours dies on a car accident or if you witness one and specially death occurs, then you reconsider and you realise it doesnt worth to endanger your life.
Sorry about this. I feel kinda upset as I write this post and pretty bad when I remember these bad memories...

That is a great story to post on this thread. I think this thread name should be changed to Track encounters not Street Encounters. Gives a bad signal.
On a lighter note, ProV1 I spend a lot of time in Ann Arbor, I hope to see you around.

Just one other note, that might have saved his passengers: WEAR YOUR SEATBELTS!!! Even if he had stopped short, chances are the people in the rear would have flown threw the windshield.
Drive responsibly tonight folks, and look out for the other guy who is probably drunk and driving.

I hate to sound insensitive and hijack the thread, but why is it every time I see a GTI on the streets (w/ atleast 3 passengers), the driver tries to race w/ me? Are they like "bro, s2000s are slow, lets go race them" on their forums?

Unless you're well trained as at least a first responder, never interfere with someone who's been in an accident. You put yourself at serious risk of lawsuit and could increase the injuries or kill the person. About the only situation where this would not apply would be fire.
To Energetic, it's possible the person you helped was already beyond help and was triaged as such.
To all of the rest, wear your seatbelts. Before you push that big red button, buckle up.

This is a very sad story indeed, deffinetly hits home and shows you how risky racing on the street can be. But not to flame the guys in the GTi, but come on, they should have been wearing their seatbelts, and maybe just maybe the outcome would have been much different. I think it is so stupid when people don't wear their seatbelt, they're just asking for a deathwish.
