count me in the crowd.
an E46 M3 is my next car. ive been researching the hell out of it.
stock they trap 106-109(highest recorded trap). thats out of the reach of 99% of NA s2ks.
think of this way. performance wise. E46 M3=C5 vette

M3 verts are noticably slower than their coupe counterparts...an S shouldn't be too far off from a vert M3 until triple digits.
After the Z4M race (same motor as above), The guy let me drive it....pretty quick, but the ap2 1-3rd gear pulls on the 333 rwhp motor. The 3 motor seems to kinda lag until higher speeds although it traps decently high...
EDIT* I was 245 rwhp/175 lbs at the time.

My E46 M3 trapped about 6ish mph faster than my S2000...stock for stock, regardless of my driving skill (which is pretty good)...same driver...same track etc. When I bought my M3 I drove a coupe and vert back to back and I have never driven another car that comes in coupe and vert form that there was such a 'seat of the pants' difference in the two. The S54 engine from the E46 doesn't lag at all...not sure what the other poster drove, they are high strung fast revving engines and the M3 is geared pretty aggressively. A well driven E46 M3 coupe will easily pull on an S2000 at any speed or from a dig...in the triple digits the S2000 has no chance at all.

But you were prob dyno'd on a dynojet. I was dyno'd at church automotive so I was basically @ 230 on a dynojet.
None the less, when you are accelerating next to an M series, it is rather exciting!
They are not slow by any means.
