I have one of those 100+ tickets. Got it last year just east of you on the I-10 going toward palm springs. I contested it. You know that in California you have to pay the bond prior to contesting the ticket. It is going to cost you near 400 dollars. I did not go to court to contest mine, I wrote a declaration about mine. And still lost!.. Moreover, I am a lawyer and it still didn't help. I called the court to appeal the process, but was unable to. However, I do not know how many points you get for it, cause I hold an out of state license and my state will never find out about it anyways, so that wasn't the deal for me.

Hmm...Well, I think your lucky that you got off with just a ticket. My hubby got one for 100+ and the cop said the same thing to him, about smoking the car he was racing. We thought we were screwed because we were easily doing 140 and he said, luckily you slowed down cuz I wasnt gonna catch you But the ticket was about $500 but that was years ago, they are very strict with the law now, I know you cant do traffic school and I thought it was a new law or something when you get caught doing over 100mph you automatically lose you license for 10 days or something like that.
We were in court a few weeks ago and they were talking about speeding laws, im trying to remember what they were saying. I do agree thoug if you are going to fight it, get extensions on the ticket for as long as you can, drag it out until you cant anymore. Also I dont know if this is true or not, but I have heard that it is better to do a Trial By Declaration (by mail) then to go to court. I have heard that when you do it by mail, bascially the officer has to do it on his own time, so some of them dont even bother. If you go to court, they get a day off to go and get a full day's pay, Just what I've heard.
As for how many points, if you have 2 already, your getting very close, because that will most likely be another 2 pointer, you can only get a certain amount in a year or 2 years etc...
BTW my hubby fought that ticket and won He did teh Trial by Declaration and the officer didnt send his paperwork in.

In CA you should always file a written declaration first. The cop has to do a writeup on his own time and submit it. If he doesn't then you get an automatic win.
If he does his part and you lose, you can still request a formal court date and go that route. The writen declaration gives you a free try to get out of it.
However, don't expect the cop not to show up in court in CA. There is no penalty for them to not file their version on the writen declaration, but they do get in trouble if they don't show up for court.
Also, my advise is to lie out your teeth. I only say this because that is what the cop did to me in my case. I was right and he was very wrong. So he lied. I was shocked and will never trust them to say the truth even in court. So why should you or I?

Yea, if you are caught drag racing here in VA, you will probably be spending the night in jail. They are known to let you off with Reckless Driving but cops in VA are pretty tough on street racers.
