1/4 mile times (with Beltronic Vector FX1) and a Cop
Last night, a friend and myself decided since he has a few mods on his 03 EVO(cone airfilter and cat back) to get some 0-60 and 1/4 mile times..
we went out to a relatively remote 4 lane road without much traffic and programmed the weight and shift points on the FX1 for his car.. his best 60 ft was 2.02 with a 14.3(I think) at 93.7..
I then put it into my stock 02 S2000, and reprogrammed it for my weight and shift points..
my 1st launch (5000 rpm clutch drop) 2.33 60 ft and a 15.3@94.2 mph.. (now I want to race him on the freeway from say 25 mph to about 125, since my trap speed seems to be better)
Now I need to go to a 1/4 mile track and see what the difference between the Beltronics Vector FX1 and the track timer is, so I'll know what the correction factor is..
My 2nd launch, (6200 rpm clutch drop) 2.20 60 ft.. but about the time I was shifting I noticed some lights from a car pull onto the road behind me and go onto high beam.. prudently I stop accelerating since I'm already at the speed limit for this road. The lights behind me close in on me, and go down to low beam and this driver is RIGHT on my ass.. I drive past where my friend was about 1/3 of a mile up the road with the lights still right behind me. I'm not sure what type of a car it was at this time but I turn my left turn signal on, and take a left at the next light and the car behind me keeps on going straight.. yep it was a San Diego Police cruiser.. WHEW..
I pull off the side of the road, call my friend on my cell and he said that he had left right after we'd gone by him. He'd gone up the road about 1/2 mile and there was another cop, (California Highway Patrol cruiser) with it's take down lights on at a stop light.. (guess it was an unrelated event)
Moral of the story.. be careful where your testing out your acceleration, and if someone comes from behind you, don't keep on accelerating..

well either you and your friend are horrible drivers
which I doubt is the case
Im thinking that the device is 1 sec off and atleast 10mph off
the times would make a lot more sense

Make sure you reset the roll out for 0-Speed runs to zero inches. Roll out is only for drag race stuff. Since you have to break a light beam to trigger the strip's timing system. If you leave it at the default (12 inches) your 0-60 times will be artificially low by about 0.3-0.4 tenths or thereabouts. You can separately adjust speed and drag roll outs. The reason why it affects 0-speed runs is because if it starts timing after 1 foot, you are already going a few MPH by that time. You also can adjust suspension squat related fudge factors. If you do this sort of thing the results match a track pretty well. The MPH tends to be off though as tracks measure it over a 120 foot interval (60 feet before/after the line). It's actually not that important to get it to match perfectly since if you are practicing or tuning the RELATIVE differences and not the ABSOLUTE differences matter.

Nobody asked what altitude, temp (though night was specified), and street surface conditions. I would think a 2.20 60' is pretty good for a stock S2000. Am I wrong? Can't comment on the EVO other than sub-2.0 60's are expected.
