Default 03 vs 97 Z28

Well this is really my first run, kinda still getting used to the car (shifting etc) Well me and my wife were out cruising around Sunday night and there was this white Z28 w/exhaust revving on everyone. I pull up to a light several cars in front of us he pulls up next to me and starts revving, I dont do anything since we cant go anywhere anyways, light turns green we start to go, he gets in front of me and passes a few cars and I follow, we now have 3 open lanes in front of us. Heres what happens...I pull up to him in 2nd @5000 rpm he starts to floor it and I instantly jump a car on him, shift to 3rd and put about another car I can see him at my side in my rearview, then he shuts down.

We pull up to the next light:
Me...Nice what year
Him...97
Him... How much hp that put out
Me...240
Him...cool

Waiting for the light to go green....Light turns green we both ease into it about 5 mph he punches it and so do I but he got the jump this time...pulls about 1-1.5 cars and stays there up to about 90 then we shut down. I give him a thumbs up and he nods and turns off.
I was very suprised by the way the S helds its ground, I was expecting to get blown out of the water, who knows maybe he didnt have a good run etc...but I was very pleased with the outcome...Any thoughts on how I did or should have done??

sounds about right, they have more torque so thats how he got the jump on you from the 5 mph roll.

You should be able to beat an LT1 with a launch, like how you beat him in the first run. But with an "ease off the line from 5mph", you should lose like you had. Easing off the line is not at all impressive in an S2K. Good runs, nonetheless!

96-97 Z-28 should be a VERY even run with a S2000, the 93-95 the S2000 should pull on them, since they are down 10 hp on the later LT1's...

Yeah all I can say is the cars seemed to be pretty even. When I got the good jump I stayed ahead and when he did, he stayed ahead, nonetheless I was very pleased with how the S held its ground

We didnt really buy it to be a drag monster, it will be mainly for looks once we start to really mod it, but I couldnt resist Now our next new car will be the 1/4 mile dragster, who knows maybe an Sti with a few mods

My bone stock 96 Z28 automatic ran a 14.0's@98-99 MPH. In cool weather, it might have gotten in the high 13's @ 100 MPH.

Just thought I would share.

Most tests dont show a variation between automatic and 6 speed trannies on GMs...they have very very strong autos!!
