Default '03 GT vs. MY04

I was back in PA over the weekend and ran into a buddy who had just got an '03 Mustang GT convertible with at least an exhaust. he was 2 cars behind me at a light so my passenger hopped out and was like.."try and keep up" I just laughed cause this kid is ALL about V8 power and hates 4bangers bein' cocky. I had raced him once before when I had my Mustang and beat him then so I'm sure he was looking forward to some revenge. So we get goin' from the light and he gets around the car in front of him and I hear him downshift and get some spin and his exhaust was LOUD, so I downshift to 2nd and we're off...he's right on my back tire when I shift into 3rd and then I start pulling SLIGHTLY not by a lot, it was pretty much even. He said he was probably around 285-290hp with his mods. So i was pretty happy...and he was pretty pissed.

what mods does he have to get that 290hp? and is that to the wheels or to the fly?

As far as i can tell thats a pretty straight story, because STOCK FOR STOCK THE S2K AND THE GT RUN SIMILAR TIMES. Finally a story that backs up what ive been saying. Having it be a convetible his mods probably brought him back up to what a stock GT would do if it were a coupe.

good kill by the way.

nice race.

Some people use advertising numbers to come up with their "real" hp numbers. Say 10 hp for a K&N, 15 hp for Flowmaster mufflers, and maybe another 5 hp for high-octane gas would put him at 290 crank Those numbers are ridiculous, but I know people who claim crap like that. Your friend's car is likely not any faster than stock, but it sounds like he can at least drive. Tell him to get a Vortech or a 150 shot and some tires, and never worry about any S2000's again

Having to buy a supercharger or NOS kit for your V8 so you never have to worry about a 4-banger S2000 is kinda ironic.

Nice run.

well, if he bought a Cobra instead, the s/c or nitrous oxide kit would be unnecessary, now wouldn't it? And it isn't exactly like the S2000's "four-banger" is typical or inexpensive - the S2000 costs significantly more than the GT, and yet it can only keep up, despite a 400+ pound weight advantage. So the highest output n/a four keeps up with the lowest output V8, as long as the I4 has a gearing and weight advantage. Hardly an indictment of Ford engineering, while at the same time it is saying something positive about Honda. Honda's best I4 is more than matched by Ford's entry-level V8. And my point was that pretty much nothing you do to an S2000 will enable it to run faster than a 400 rwhp GT, unless you spend big bucks building the engine. That is the strength of a V8.

I know Im adding fuel to this fire and I want no part of the debate that I can see coming but..... an STI Costs as much as an 03 Cobra.

All I will say is this. The mustang and S are different cars for different prople. Arguing which one is better then the other is pointless.
