I'm not sure if he had a bigger turbo. It was a nice Jetta and decently fast for one to.

Jettas and Gtis are exactly the same unless they have different motors. Stock vs. stock, the VR6 is faster, but the 1.8 responds better to mods as mentioned.
The R32 is faster then both the jetta or gtil, but a 1.8 with full bolt ones is about even.

There is a simple upgrade setup for the 1.8t motors that costs about $1500 and brings the power output up to 275whp/280wtq, which I got to see firsthand on a Dynojet 248C. Impressive! Consists of injectors, software, FMIC, different turbo trim (k-o3-super60 instead of the K-03-45 stock trim).
Had a Jetta GLi with that setup disappear from my R32 on the freeway... freaking fast! My R32 puts down 235whp/220wtq, for comparison. 1.8t with that much output and FWD = pretty quick from a roll.

Chipped, exhaust, intake 1.8t's are quick. My friends GTI runs 14.1's @ 98~99mph on pump gas and he has a best of 13.2@103.x(drag radials) on 100oct. His mods are giac chip, 3" TBE, some intake, and a Greddy FMIC.

Yeah If those mods are on a Anniversary Edition GTI with the KO3sport turbo and a six speed it should do 13's on pump gas! And im sure somebody already mention BT, which all i can say it

No such thing as a k-03-super 60. I think you mean t3 super 60, which requires a t3 flanged manifold as well.. That's a nice little turbo. Very similar to the GT28r..

I have a Turbo Bug with a boost controller, FPR, intake/exhaust, metal piston diverter valve( instead of a blow off valve this redirects the unused air back into the intake which virtually eliminates turbo lag between shifts) ect ect. and I eat S2000's for breakfast........ but only in a straight line
The 1.8T engine is much better off the line and midrange. Up high it slows down just a bit whereas the top end is where the S2000 shines.

Turbo S? Or regular Turbo?
Reason I ask is I've taken both motors apart, and the Turbo S has an intake manifold that is nicely matched to the head, while the regular beetle Turbo has significantly smaller intake ports on the intake manifold (which is part of why it puts out only 150hp stock, in addition to the smaller turbo compared to the turbo S). Switching manifolds nets a very nice gain on that motor.
