What STARTS as a 1mph advantage STAYS as a 1mph advantage if the two cars are dead even (as here seems to be the case).
At the end of the run the car that had the 1mph jumph STILL has that 1mph advantage, not more than that.
So how do you get the "illusion" of pulling?
Well, 1mph advantage means that the first car is travelling at 1mph higher speed than the second car ALL THE TIME. This is the same as if first car was going 1mph the whole race while the second car didn't move at all. It's easy to see that the first car is walking away from the second car at a steady pace of 1 mph.
Think of it in terms of time: If a first car gets a .1 second jump, it will STILL have that .1 second advantage at the end of the race. However, that .1 second is maybe worth a car length at 40mph, but it will be worth 3 car lenghts at 120mph, since both cars will be travelling 3 times faster.
Sorry for being such a nerd...

Very Nice!!! I hope this puts to rest the "Z Sucks/S2K Is Slow" B.S. from both camps. I still think it is pretty remarkable that Nissan is able to offer a car that can keep up with an S2K in terms of speed and handleing (although the Stook is lighter/easier to toss and prob. quicker through turns, the Z i think has an advantage at being a little more stable and easier to deal with) for $26K dollars base (and at the track I think you will find little difference between a base/track in terms of times with equal drivers.) That being said, Great race!!! Do you know what type of exhaust the Z was running?
