Your tips for storing car between track days
I just got a used 16' enclosed Interstate trailer for taking my street-legal '05 S2000 to West Coast track days. I do a lot of business travel, so will begin keeping my car and other track support stuff stored in the trailer in a secured storage lot between closely-spaced track days. I'd like to keep it stored ready-to-go so I only need to hook up and drive to the next event. That means I need to inspect/prep car and equipment before storing, preferably doing so at the track before I leave. This would be in addition normal periodic/annual maintenance (e.g. fluid change, rebuild calipers, etc). I'm creating a checklist to make sure I don't miss anything, and would like to get some of your ideas. Here's my big ones so far:
- pull wheels and:
- inspect/replace brake pads/disks as needed, recording remaining pad thickness
- bleed brake fluid as needed, topping off brake fluid
- inspect suspension system
- inspect tires
- check oil
- disconnect battery
- top off gas tank
- inventory spare oil/brake fluid/pads/disks, ordering replacements as needed
- clean helmet lense
- hang fire suit and store helmet/H&NR/shoes/gloves in trailer

It's not a V-nose, but I can fit a small tool cabinet in the front left corner and a big bin on the floor in front of the car. I'll also put up some shelves front for storage of light stuff, and a tire rack on the right side wall. There's certainly more space then my S2000 plus tire trailer. I would have liked a 20 footer, but that would have been too much for comfort with my GMC Yukon.
Check coolant added to the list.

I usually leave the gas tank and fuel jugs empty for storage and transport. I'll fill up at the gas station right before I reach the track. Sometimes I don't know when my next track day will be so I don't want any stale gas. Its an extra 100 lbs (with the jugs) that is not worth transporting.

To avoid condensation, any long-term storage would be with a full tank, stabilizer added. However, right new I'm looking at more a short 4-6 week storage period, particularly when my travel schedule means I wouldn't drive it on the street before my next track day. I figure after my last session of the day I'll do a cool-down drive to fill up at the nearest Chevron station (at least when at Thunderhill, Laguna Seca, and Reno-Fernley), then load up and head home. Avoids having to spend money on the hi-rent fuel in the paddock.
I got a track day next weekend at Thunderhill, then a weekend at Reno-Fernley in October (with business trips to Scotland, Houston (twice), and Long Beach in between. I'll post my checklist once I get back and adjust for leasons learned.
