Nah, not enough traffic to warrant a split. Besides, I do both auto-x and road courses and it's convenient to have all the posts in one place.

I like the icon idea, though.

I was going to make some crack about open-tracker's vs. people who can actually drive fast... but then I thought better of it.

Seriously, I fail to see a conceptual difference between autocrossing and road racing that it big enough to warrant a split. 95% of the info here applies equally to both.

cheers,

Keep the forum unified - there's a lot of good information here in one place. I do like the icon idea.

I read most of the posts anyway .

I don't see a reason to split the forum either. There's not enough traffic to justify it and everyone seems to get along fine

$.02 from a frequent lurker here...Also would like to keep it unified. I cruise this forum mostly to learn about race set-ups, products, driving technique, and to have specific questions answered. I feel like I get value from both trackers (which will probably be the only racing activity I do) and autox'ers. I would hate to lose that value because one group is excluded. I think cthree's idea of tagging the message with the appropriate icon is a good compromise.

I agree that there isn't enough volume to warrant a split.

The only time I see any real potential for confusion relates to the rules restrictions of stock class autoX. There are discussions here on alignment, front bars, wheels, etc. by autoX people that have an underlying assumption that they are limited to modifications allowed in stock class. For those interested in track use, those restrictions don't apply, and other choices may be more appropriate.

And vice versa.

Hopefully an icon for threads will help, plus more care taken by posters to state their situation.

I was hoping to start an S2000 thread for Outlaw racing and Demolition derbys!

Seriously, I think the icons are a great idea. Gives the reader an upfront signal what the post is about.

dlq04, Does your MGAmkII have a good frame. My brother has one with a rusted out frame and he is looking for another one to make one good car.

Legal Bill, the short answer is yes.

For anyone interested, here's some details and history on the car:

1962 MGA 1600 Mk IISerial # GHNL2-109040
Engine # 16GC-U-H8779
NAMGAR # 3224
Date built: May / June 1962
Date I purchased: April 4, 1987 (stored in heated garage since)

Specifications: North American export, Left hand drive, Roadster body, Body color was originally Old English White (repainted red), interior is Black with White piping, steel disc wheels

This car is historically significant - it is one of the very last MGAs built - 30th from the end of production. As of today I am only aware of five newer MGA existing in the world.

Automobile magazine reported in August 2002 that car # 109050, a completed solid restoration, sold at Christie's auction for $27,025. NAMGAR registered four others; however, only one is still active so I don't know the fate of the others. Their numbers are 109054 (expired NAMGAR member), 109059 (Robert Carr, Palm Harbor, FL), 109061 (expired NAMGAR member), and 109070 (last MGA made, owned in England, expired NAMGAR member).

As far as I know, I'm the third owner. Ther person I bought it from purchased it in 1979 and placed it in storage in 1982, where it remained until I bought it in 1987. (it carried 1982 plates)

The car is very, very solid and would make an excellent restoration project.

Like most MGAs the rocker panels gone and the front valance dinged up. The top is rotted, one of the seat frames is broken (I have an extra set of seats), there's a broken door hinge, the car was original Old English White repainted Red, there's evidence of earlier frame patching, the steering wheel is cracked in half (I have an extra wheel), carpet missing, mirror missing, choke cable missing, window pouch is ripped. I've never started the engine but I keep it oiled and frequently turned it over with the hand crank.

Price $4,000.
