Who has SCCA Club Racing Competition License?
#11
Thanks for the replies.
Given the fact that T2 is the only class that S2K can be in and S2K is not very competitive in this class.
I am losing interest in pursuing the SCCA competition license.
I am not familiar with NASA and the ITE or SPU.
What kind of preps is required ?

ITE is a SCCA class. Its a sub class of IT (Improved Touring).
Its basicly anything goes as long as its NA (or factory turbo) and tub chasis (no tube frames). And DOT tires.
Really the main difference between ITE and T2 prep is the wheels and interior. Being that ITE is pretty open, you have lots of room for mods and stuff.

I race with the Texas Region SCCA and NASA Texas and here is my $.02
If you really want to race your S2000, build it to Honda Challenge H1 rules and also race it in SCCA ITE. However I would not recommend this route since you wont have very much competition in this region. Here are the ITE rules for the Division http://www.sowdivscca.org/rules.aspx
I would highly recommend you attend some of the races and watch the different classes before making a decision on building any car.
Have you done any DE's with your S2000? If so, with which group and at which track??

Can't you also apply for the SCCA comp lic after attending a 3 day race school like Skip Barber or Darek Daley? Anyone know the process for that? Do you still need to do two regional races to get the license?
I'm curious 'cause Moroso in West Palm has lots of open test days for drivers with the SCCA license and cars that meet SCCA specs. I've went out to one and there were only 6 teams testing; track was open all day. At a typical HPDE there are like 120 cars.

Here's all the accredited schools: http://www.scca.org/amateur/club_racing/schools.html
Those are the professional run ones, in addition to the ones the local regions put on.

TypeSH,
I have been in 10 DE since 2000, mostly in TWS.
With RA-1 tires (the rest is stock) my lap time ranges between 2:03 - 2:13.
Some of the DE instructors encourage me to participate in SCCA races.
I am investigating the $ needed to race in SCCA.
I am still having fun with DEs; Based on the significant $ needed to get license and build a race car, I think I will stay with DE.

Have you considered Spec Miata? The front runners are in the 2:01's at TWS and there is tons of excellent competition in that class.
You should sign up for the Driver's Edge DE at MSR on April 17-18th and we can talk about all this in much more detail...
