I understand that it takes 2 SCCA school credits and 2 SCCA regional races to get one.
Also, one must have an SCCA approved race car to participate in these SCCA club racing schools and events.
Rental for race car typically cost $900/day.

I am wondering whether anyone here owns this license and whether it is worth it?
Also, what modifications are need to make S2000 an SCCA approved race car?

First of all, don't forget to use the search function. All this info is in there already.

In brief:
Currently the only class for S2000 in the SCCA is T2.
Minimum requirement is safety equipment (cage, seat, belts, hardtop), and allowable mods in T2 are very few (shocks, ECU, tires, pads). T2 also requires almost all of the stock interior.

After the 2 SCCA schools, you'll have a novice permit which allows you to go regional racing. After 2 completed races (without incidents), they'll give you your full license.

Keep in mind that having a prepped car and a license allows you to open practice events that are not open to the general public. They are usually on Fridays before race weekends.

There are some misc regional classes too, ITE for example. Or your local chapter of the Honda Challenge (not sure if they do this in tx yet).

I have an SCCA license. It's good to have because if youwant to race in other series, you get right in.

Other than that, it doesn't really do anything for you.

Out here my s2k should be towards the front of the pack in ITE, but that doesn't mean that someone can't show up with a more prepped car and win, but they won't be that far ahead.
