Default What Will You Do If The S2000 Is Reclassed To AS?

The decision on the AS / BS classing mini-shuffle is getting closer, and I still haven't written my letter to the SEB on the subject, so I figured I'd conduct a little poll first to add more data to the discussion.

If the '00-'03 cars get moved to A Stock, how will that affect your plans to autocross your car next year? Please only respond if you are actively autocrossing your S2000 at SCCA events, or are planning to do so -- responses from people not running SCCA events obviously won't be of interest to them. Don't stuff the ballot box either.

Please also mention in your response how frequently and at what level (e.g. regionally, divisionally, nationally) you generally compete. Last but not least, for interest's sake -- if you would drop the S2000, what other cars would you consider as replacements?

Looking forward to some interesting responses...

Steve

Being modded already - I'm outgunned in ASP as it is - so it wouldn't matter much to me.

If I were competing regularly on a National level it would a completely different story however.

I love the car too much to switch just for auto-x.

I just swithched to the S2000 from a MINI. I've done several National events in my Cooper including Topeka last year. (Cones on my first three runs.) I will continue to go to Topeka each year, more for the people than the trophy; he says like a true mid-packer. How much further back can I be than I am now??
I will be in Topeka this year, in whose car is in question. I am looking for a ride with a MINI, Miata or S2000. If all else fails, I may just run ASP with a stock S2000-stock except for the shift knob and 17" street tires.

I currently do 3-4 national events per year and 12 local events per year. If the S2000 were reclassed, that would probably change to 6 local events per year and no national events.

Didn't SP-trimmed cars get moved to BSP earlier this year?

I've been autoxing about 3 years now, and I only run local region events. I basically run all the local events that I can - 11-15/yr.

We don't really have any competitive AS drivers in my region at the moment. But I do have some other consistant and good BS (non-s2000) drivers to run against right now. So I'm not sure it will be as much fun driving if I get bumped up to AS because there is not much competition in that class locally right now - It's mostly just the noob Evo and STi drivers who show up for 1 or 2 autoXs on their street tires to try it out and then disappear.

Even if it gets bumped up, I think I'll continue autoXing the s2000 next year. (... that is, assuming I ever get my Saner bar by then!! ). If not, my 92 Sentra SE-R beater is just begging to be an STS car.

Maybe I shouldn't have voted since I was only driving my S2000 in Regional events but I voted "Other." I jumped the gun and was expecting this move earlier and used it as one of my excuses to jump into a B Mod car. With both my wife and me driving the car we were able to reduce out tire budget by roughly $2000 each year.

This is my second full year of autocross. If the S2000 moves to AS I would probably change vehicles. Find a car that is competitive in the class. Miata perhaps. Build a Caterham 7?
The S2000 is a very fun toy, but I would at least like to have a reasonable probability of wining. We will see how the '04 S2000 does at nationals.

I do some divisional and all local events and I'm a member of the Atlanta Region SCCA organization. On a local level, the switch would not matter to me except that I would recieve more first place finishes. I don't know how the S2k does on a national level in AS yet so I can't reasonably give a response.

We all know that the S2k dominates BS so maybe we should be moved?
