I have a big rollbar in my Miata for 2 years. The car is driven every day. For that time I've never been stoped by a cop. And also never anyone revved at me at a red light. Probably people seeing the rollbar assume that under the hood there is something which backs up all that metal - even at the time when I had the stock 100 rwhp engine. I am happy that the ricers react that way.

I don't know how the Custco bar mounts Jonathan, but I do know that I spent about 10 hours installing the Bitterman Bar in my car. It's not a trivial job! Also, maybe the Custco is different, I don't know of any aftermarket rollbar that does not require the cutting and/or special fabrication of the interior.

The problem I have is this: Race seats aren't designed for use with three-point belts.

I put a Kirkey Intermediate Road Racing 17" in mine and left the 3-pt belts intact. It did require some mods -- read on.

"The seat belt required a bit of thought. Since the new seat is set up for a competition harness, the standard S2000 belt doesn't just drop in. First off, I had to unbolt the bottom of the seat belt from the frame, then thread it through the left-side hole in the seat. On the right side, the standard S2000 buckle doesn't fit, so I bought a rear seat belt from a salvage yard Honda and bolted the buckle end onto the rail (a T-bar mounting frame I used), with the buckle dangling through the hole adjacent to the driver's right hip. One-handed fastening of the seat belt doesn't work very well, but c'est la vie."

Note that the salvage yard buckle is not a perfect fit with the S2K seat belt, but it locks in securely and has never given me a problem.
