That's a pretty open-ended question. There are auto-x schools, I believe Evolution is one of the leading ones. The nice thing about auto-x though is that you can just jump right in at a local event and get your feet wet. Check scca.org to find your local region and get started.

Step 1: Buy some cones.

Step 2: Go to parking lot.

Step 3: Set up cones in random shapes.

Step 4: Knock over cones.

Step 5: Pick up cones.

Step 6: Go to Step 3.

Getting started is as easy as finding your local club's schedule, showing up at an event early in the morning and saying "Hi, I'm new!"

You will want:
a water bottle
sunscreen
paper, masking tape, and a fat magic marker to make numbers
a tire pump and gauge

The club probably has helmets that they loan out.

Most autocross "schools" are for driving technique and assume that you have already driven in a few autocrosses.

One of our members - PedalFaster has put together a great primer for auto-x.

Some of this is local stuff but the great majority is going to be super helpful to anyone looking to start autocrossing.

my suggestion is change your oil and go to one!!! Every autocross I've ever been to there are about 20 people who've done it less than a year and probably 5 people who it's their first time. You'll feel silly when you're 15 seconds off FTD but everyone has been there. I feel there's no danger in going to an autocross to participate for your first time as long as you pay attention at the novice meeting and ask a lot of questions.

You can probably arrive there with nothing more than your car and some money. There will be 100 people there with extra air and tire guages and helmets.

Credit where credit is due: that's actually jerrypeterson's FAQ. I just took over ownership of it when Jerry got out of the autocross scene...

Just go to your local SCCA auto-x, sign up for A-stock (I assume our cars are still A-stock or are they B-stock now?) and have at it. Show up early and do the walk through, most have one for novices where you walk the course and visualize the best lines, it really helps. Take it slow but not slow your first time to get familiar with racing around cones on a big open plane and then have at it 2nd time around. Make sure your tires are at a good temp to start with, a little over inflated is better than under since you can at least bleed off pressure easily without any equipment needed.
