On the first video, it sounded like the car was never reving very high. Like you were always short-shifting into fourth. From talk of hitting the rev limiter, though, I'm thinking this was not the case. Could you comment?

Hmm... not sure which video you were watching. Watch the video again (and turn the volume up). I'm pretty sure he never even went into 4th. With the volume up, you can definitely hear him hit the rev-limiter on the back straight. On the other straights, I don't know if he actually pegs the rev-limiter or just nudges it, but he's right up there.

Sorry for being the newbie here, but I have a question.

Why would you hit the rev limiter if you can go a gear higher? Would it waste more time to have to shift and then immediatly down shift again? I just don't see why you wouln't just upshift.

That's exactly why. Especially in an auto-x, I will hit the rev limiter for half a second rather than upshifting right before a turn, I'm already in the gear I'm going to need when I exit the corner. Whether you're bouncing off the rev limiter or shifting the car isnt accelerating either way so you might as well choose the path that is least likely to generate an error. (missed shift!)

I've been learning how to Heel-Toe when I downshift over the past few months. Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the purpose was to rev match the engine as you downshift in one smooth process. On the video I heard a throttle blip and then another rise in engine rpm as the clutch was let out. Almost like double clutching.
