I have no track experience first hand but have watched quite a bit of it. good reaction times are usually .5 - or am I off? because it doesnt have to do with reaction but the time at the end of the streach.

.024 is a good reaction time for a sportsman tree. If he can do it consistently hundreds of times in a row; that's awesome.
Schatten, you are partial correct. On a sportsman tree (.500) there is .500 seconds between all the lights. The reaction time can be anywhere from .000 and up. However, on a pro tree, .400 between the time all three yellows come on until the green, a perfect reaction would be .400.
A sportsman tree reaction time only shows the time after .500 (ie. .001, .018, etc.) A pro tree adds the .400 to the reaction time(ie. .401, .418, etc.)
Hope this helps.

Color me confused...
I think Chapstick alludes to the answer to my question - but I'll ask anyway.
My only experience with a "tree" is at SCCA ProSolo events. (Okay - ONE event )
If we got below 0.500 then we red lighted. 0.500 was the best - and we aren't allowed to wait beyond 1 sec.
So a reaction time of 0.024 would get a red light - unless it was really a reaction time of 0.524 at a ProSolo Event. (A sportsman tree?) Is this right?
And I *think* we aren't allowed to wait beyond 1 sec b/c the time doesn't start until we actually cross the beam and - well - waiting would look dumb, but would otherwise have no penalty.
And what's the deal with that? Why do they only include reaction time in the over all time for challenge events? You'd think that the time *should* start when the light turns green.
I wonder if any autoxers are reading this thread...

As a matter of fact, rzrsedg, a lot of us think its pretty dumb.
Reaction time *used* to count in ProSolo, but then recently they started using a new timing system and that forced a few changes on the procedures...
It has been quite a controversial subject amongst the ProSolo community.
cheers
