track worthy tires treadwear 250 & up

[quote name='krnmike' date='Nov 28 2008, 07:21 PM'] there's obviously a huge price gap different between the 250 and the 200 treadwear tires (along with the 245 & 255 width tires size wise).
temperatures have obviously gone down (atleast here in socal) and my driving level isn't good enough to make the best use with r comps or treadwear 200 and lower tires @ the track. so I figure I should save some money and go ahead with the higher treadwear tires (which, in general, are cheaper in price). I still want to push the tires a bit and get the grip (neglecting the alignment & suspension complexions).
some background info..

Treadware rating is a made up number. Tire manufacturers are allowed to decide what it means for their own line of tires. A 200-rated Toyo is not necessarily going to have the same wear characteristics as a 200-rated Kumho.
I'd think three track weekends is easy for most tires out there, even most R compounds. But holding up under the heat and stress of track use is going to be most important, over time. Some street tires are just going to come apart in chunks.
I run Toyo RA1's for 30-34 heat cycles, which is 8-10 track days -- and then also for street use. I used to run BFGoodrich g-force T/A KDs for double that amount of time, at least. They'd typically last me a dozen track days and a year's worth of street driving.
And the BFGoodriches were very good performers, although the window of when they're good during a session is a lot more specific than with R-compounds. But I was within 2 seconds of my best RA1 times on the BFGoodriches, which isn't bad at all considering how long they'd last.

RE01- Had them for 3 track days (summer months at Willow springs and Cali Speedway) They lasted me 10k miles total with those track days included. I replaced them when I had major camber wear in the rears.
Falken 615's - Way less money. 4k miles and a day at buttonwillow (cold) and they are showing minimal wear. I expect them to last about the same, maybe better since its colder now.
Grip wise, not sure yet, I haven't done an apples to apples comparison, but I did find a use for the extra $200 bucks.
My next set will be the D1* Spec or the above mentioned Federals.

has anyone tried the khumo xs yet?? I've been waiting on some feedback on those but haven't seen anything....
Also... I stay away from the 615s now. They're old news and I feel there are better tires available for similar prices. Z1 star specs, RE01Rs. You can't really listen to what a lot of people say about tires though that aren't "veterans" I guess.... you get Joe Shmoe saying oh yeah the Fuzion ZRi is an awesome tire on the track!!!!1139 when in actuality, I can't believe I ever put that tire on any wheels I own... (BTW if you ever think of getting this tire for ANY reason, do yourself a favor and don't)
