Default Track tire wear

I started tracking my AP2 last summer and decided to get a set of track tires for it this summer. I chose Hankook RS3s 225F / 255R on AP2V2 wheels. I run 35 psi cold which turns into about 40 psi after a cool down lap with a stock alignment and stock suspension. I run with VSA on.

I have done three track days so far with these tires (no street driving except to and from the tracks) and the outside shoulder of the fronts is wearing badly. The tread has developed "lips" at the inside edges of the ridges and the outside edge of the ridges shows much more wear than the inside edges.

I am concerned that the inside shoulder will cord on the next track day or so. This seems like way too much wear and the middle of the tire has plenty of tread depth left.

Are there any tire tread wear experts out there who can tell me what I can do to make these tires wear more evenly?

This is a daily driver car and I have a different set of wheels/tires for daily driving.

sounds like you need more camber (common on a track car) and it also sounds like you might be running more pressure than you need.

Wouldn't too much pressure cause the center of the tire to wear instead of the shoulder?

My camber is -0.5 on the front (right in the middle of the spec). I intend to get an alignment before the next track day. How much should I have it changed?? I don't want to add so much that the car doesn't work well as a daily driver.

You can't get enough camber for those tires on stock suspension. Max it. And flip the tires.

You mentioned the outside edge wearing more and then said you are worried the inside edge will cord. Is the inside or the outside shoulders of the tires wearing faster?

Also keep in mind that overdriving the fronts will accelerate wear (common novice problem).

RS3s can be worn bald before they cord.

-0.5 camber is nowhere near enough for track.

Everything is a compromise when you're dual purposing a car. You just have to decide which side of the fence you'd like to err on.

If you stay with not much front camber, you'll wear out your track tires sooner.
If you go with a lot of front camber, you'll wear out your street tires sooner.

Too much pressure will wear the inner and outer edges of the tire with the camber you're running. You probably need to drop like 5 psi, you'll gain some grip and get better tire wear.

That said and given the cost of good track tires vs street tires I'd run the track alignment and worry about replacing the cheaper street tires more often.

When I had my first s2k I was aligned at -2.5 front/-3.3 rear and still got around 20k miles out of a set of Sumitomo "summer" tires. This was mostly street driving too. They were flipped during that mileage and at the end of life wear was completely even across the board.

Steve: unless you had to run 3.3 in the rear to get them to wear evenly, why would you run that much camber in the rear? It has no handling benefit other than balancing tire wear. the pitch of the rears never change... only reason to run agressive front camber is to help turn in. In my case I didnt run enough when switching to slicks to get proper wear. prior exp with tires, I always ran street tires and 2.2 degrees and that was enough.

as ckit stated above. The inside wears on my rs3's. However on my c51's the outside wear both with 2.2 degree of - camber
