Yeah, there's the whole school of thought that the lower weight base oil is better, but that means the oil is relying more on the viscosity extenders when it gets hot.

I guess I over did it then. I used to change oil after every track day, but leave the filter unchanged depending on the mileage since the last filter change.

However, most experts concur that actually the filter needs to be changed more often than the oil, with modern oil formulations.
