Hello Juan. I just got some 16" Volk CE28N's off of eBay. I will be ordering some Toyo T1-S in 225/50 and 245/45. This is what I've found...The contact patch or TREAD WIDTH of S0-2 is 8.1" . the Rear tread width for S0-2 is 9.2. The tread width for a Potenza S0-3 225/50 is 9.3 and the rear is 9.6". For the Toyos, the fronts are 9.1" and rear is 9.8" The fronts and the rears at these sizes fit wheel size 16x7 and 16x8. 225/50 is the correct size without sway bar for wheel size 16x7. When people get 17x7.5" wheels and get 225/45-17" tires, They don't buy sway bars for their fronts...I really don't think we need to either because of that 16x7 and not 16x6.5 inch wheel. What a difference a Half inch makes. To reference my findings go to Tire Rack. Pull up tire size and go to SPECS. look and find for yourself. I hope this helps...BillyBlast

P.S. Thanks for the pics of your new wheels. They look GREAT!
I got some 16" wheels too.I'll post pics when they come in.

In addition to the tread widths, also compare the tread patterns between the front and rear OEM SO-2s. The voids are few and narrow on the rears, much wider on the fronts. This biases the grip even more toward the rear than just the tread widths would indicate.

Many of us run the 225 / 245 combination on stock wheels when using track tires. It works very well, especially if you have a slightly bigger front bar.
And if you have the stock bar?

I have stock 16 inch wheels and stock suspension. I've run about 20 track days, mostly on 205/225 OEM S02 combination but some on 205/245 S03s. I'm going to try RA1s next year for track tires (but keep the S03s as street tires. Stock suspension, "UK" alignment. So, what size RA1s should I get? 205/245 or 225/245?

I've had more trouble with too much understeer than with too much oversteer on my street tires. But since I've never run R-compounds, I don't know what to expect. I'm thinking 205s might be the safer choice, but I'm not sure.

Thank You Racer!!!!! I had to go back and redo(is that a word) my own findings. I was writing down SECTION WIDTH not TREAD WIDTH!! This is even better. Juan, your S0-3 TREAD WIDTHs are 8.3 and 9.1" This is a better stagger than my mistake. Your tires should your wheels. Thanks for the correction. I probably would have never caught that...BillyBlast

What would be ideal tires for wheel sizes 16x7 and 16x8?

Mike, conventional wisdom is that without a stiffer front bar, 205/245 RA-1s are the proper combination.

The 35mm offset on the front 7" wheel is too low to run a 225 front (especially if the car is lowered). You will probably get some rubbing.

Mike, I run 205 and 245 RA-1s and the combo is excellent. I would do this if you are going to keep your OEM FSB. If you are getting to much push with this car, think "slower in, faster out".

Anyone know what RA-1s to use with MY04 wheels and stock front SB? I am wondering if a 205 and 255 will work? Also, I might switch to Victoracers and than I am thinking about 225 and 255 (with OEM FSB)?

Thanks to all for your help.

tubedriver:

225/16x7 35 mm is at the limit, since I am not plannig lower the car, Do not like to mess with suspension on this car, wheels are ok for me.

OK, thanks. 205/245.

Yeah, slow-in-fast-out. And I've also started trailbraking a little more and realized that really helps with the understeer as well. (I mean, intellectually I knew that was what trailbraking was for, but I finally became good enough to actually feel it happening and use it.)
