Tire Temps
I am currently running the following:
f camber -1.5*
caster 5.5*
toe 1/8" out
r camber -2.0*
toe 1/4"in
Sock Sway bar (ordered Saner......just waiting)
Koni Yellows Rear 1/2 stiff
Front 3/4 stiff
I run Kuhmo Victoracers of the 225 and 245 variety. At my last event (on asphalt) I used a touch type tire pyrometer to determine if my tire pressures were correct. The temps for each tire looked like this:
inside edge = hot
middle = hotter
outside edge = hottest
Pressures :
F = 37psi
R = 35psi
From what I have been told, we want to have the middle temp split the differences of the edges. However, the Miata/Z06 driver I borrowed this from has the exact opposite in heat distribution with inside edge carrying the most heat. He recommended more camber all the way around. Any suggestions?? Also, how will the sway effect my tire temps?
Thanks!

I agree with your friend that you could use more neg camber. Your current camber settings are conservative at best with the tires you are using. Adding more pressure to the tires won't do much good since the mid section is already hotter than the inside edge and reducing pressure will only make the outside edge worse. Fiddling with the damper setting will not solve your problem either since it has no significant effect on total bodyroll. The Saner bar will help some what but your best bet is more neg camber.
I find the tires you are using work best within the 38-34psi range with stock springs rates. I use the allowable range for fine tuning.
.... or you could just be overdriving the limit of the tires but you probably aren't

The catch is that you don't get a chance to equalize temps across the tire tread for an autocross run. You're in the right ballpark for pressures - now change them according to the amount of sidewall rollover (how far down the tread edge does the wear extend) and feel (over/understeer).

When measuring the rear temps, the outer edge was only 5* higher than the inner edge. However, the fronts, were off by as much as 15* - 18* higher on that inner edge. My question is how much of an adjustment is needed to the front to bring those temps down.
Currently the car feels very nutral and I am able to steer the rear with throttle in showcase turns and long sweepers. I only experience understeer when I go in way too hot into a turn and oversteer only happens unexpectedly durring high speed off-set gates and slaloms. Nevertheless, there is a 93' MR2 Turbo that is able to flat foot things I can't with out the tail stepping out. Will the sway bar dial out that oversteer and let me get way with flat footing the same sections?
Thanks for all the responses. I was begining to think that no one checks tire temps.

All the S2000's on the road course heat and wear front tires that way (I generally cord the fronts on the outside edge first). I have just assumed that is the norm for the geometry with streetable alignment.
