Suspension question
I have used my car as a daily driver, autocross car (local/regional only), and track car since it was new. It just got retired as a track car when I bought a Spec Miata.
My S2000 is entirely stock, except I have a Gendron front bar, DOT4 fluid, and I use race tires. When I tracked the car, I used full race pads.
Driving the Spec Miata has been something of an eyeopener for me, having never driven a car properly prepared for these activities. My Honda is quite slow to recover from turns, so that the wiggly stuff in autocross (especially if the course is a fast one) is, to put it mildly, challenging. The Miata is always planted, almost regardless of the situation.
I won't be tracking my Honda again any time soon (I'm too tall for the roll hoops, and not ready to devalue the car by putting in proper roll protection for a tall person), so now I'm curious about whether any "affordable" suspension mod would be stock legal for autox, and make a significant difference. I have 38,000 miles on the car, perhaps 4500 of those miles on the track, and perhaps 200 autocross runs.
I have red the autocross faq that Steve did, in which it seems as if he's saying that the only suspension mod which makes a significant difference (after a front bar) is custom shocks. Is this still considered to be the case, and at what point are the original stock shocks considered to be ready for replacement?
Thanks.
