Don't celebrate too much... the Boxster is proving it's worth. And Andy won AS with a time only .1 behind Rob Falkner's Boxster S in SS, which seems to have locked him into SS.
The only real overdog that exists now is the C4 Vette in AS! I don't think you are going to see many cars in AS next year, which will force them to re-evaluate the current classing. Maybe the BS Boxsters will keep doing well enough that they will go to AS!
I have to also point out how ridiculous it is that the Boxster and Boxster S are in 2 different classes, 2 classes apart! They are almost identical with only like a 30-40hp difference in HP, similar weight and suspension. HOWEVER, the Z06 with 405hp and the regular C5 Vette have over 60hp difference, a large weight difference and COMPLETELY dissimilar suspensions yet they are in the same class. Hmmm.... that doesn't make too much sense.
Either both Boxsters belong in BS or both in AS. I know that sucks for regular Boxster owners, but it sucked for regular C5 owners when the Z06 came out (and Rx7 owners, and C4 Vette owners, and Boxster S owners!)

Let it also be said that course dependancy plays out like this:
BS-
Sweepers=Boxster Course
Straightaways=S2000 Course
SS-
Sweepers=Z06 Course (with the BoxsterS given a fighting chance)
Straigtaways=Z06 Course
If the Boxsters were moved to AS, then you would have 3 spec classes...
SS-Z06
AS-BoxsterS
BS-S2000
So what's better a spec class or a class with heavy course dependancy? It's a tough question to answer. Any thoughts?

I'm just happy that they classed the Boxster and the S2K together. Do they belong in BS? I don't think so. I think they have proven themselves to be faster than the slow AS cars that now have a home in BS. BS would have been a great class for some realy great older cars but now it looks like the same dog and pony show of last year.
I'm also not so sure that the boxster and s2k could hold their own against the c4. It would again be course dependent.
So where do we put these 3 cars? I agree that the Boxster S has about as much of advantage over the boxster 2.7 as the 2.7 has over the 2.5, I also doubt we will see as many competitvely driven Boxster S's as we do 2.7's or s2k's due to costs.
I'm so glad I'm not on the SEB.

Don't get me wrong, I'm still happy I got my S2K, but I wish I could have a bit more confidence in its reliability. Also, front tire wear has been no cup of tea either. Oh well, guess its more motivation to drive better and start winning some Hoosiers.
I wouldn't be surprised to see a proposal next year to move the Boxster S and RX-7tt down to AS. There were rumors about such a move floating around already at Nats.

2002 Solo II classes
Appendix A
A Stock (AS)
.......Chevrolet
..............Corvette C4 (84-96)
..............Corvette ZR1
.......Corvette Fodder
.......Corvette Fodder
.......Corvette Fodder
...
Seriously the way classes have ended up, the real question is why we need a new AS at all, unless it is to create a class for C4 Corvettes.
If they don't show up, then maybe just get rid of the class.
On the other hand the C4 is a good autocross car and prices are decent and there are a lot of them out there. Could get a lot of interest with no C5 Z06 in their class.
