From testing done by grassroots skinnier wheels and ties are faster then the bigger wheel/ tire set-up in the rain.

With it being rain tires/wheels, I wouldn't think weight really is all that important. I'm just thinking of going with the AP1 stockers for this purpose.

I'd probably still go with 17X9 and run a slightly stretched tire. That way you have interchangeable rims and benefit from less sidewall flex.

If I decide to let go of some $ for the wheels, I think I will do what you just said. However, I'd rather use those $ for other STR goodies.

I think for this year I'm just going to go with the 17x9 TR motorsports wheels with 245 or 255 star specs and use them as my combined rain/drizzle/cold tires. Maybe another year from now I might add one more set...so I'd then have 17x9s with hankooks for hot, 17x9s with dunlops for cold or drizzle, and for heavy rain continental dw's on some cheap 17x8's or roundabouts...whether S2000 stock rims or something else. Maybe even just use my stock staggered rims. But for now I'll just have the two sets and just hope it doesn't rain significantly.

it's only crazy if you don't mind the wheel not fitting over your BBK

a heavy and tall wheel/tire package will provide more control in the rain, low inertia and low gearing only contribute to wheel spin and brake lockup in low grip rain conditions

you are not going to out accelerate or out brake anyone in the rain, you can only out control them for the fastest possible time

So something I see missing from this thread is what tire pressure are you guys running on your frequent surfaces?

Most of my courses are all asphalt and concrete.

When I started I listened to my friends who said to run 40 PSI all around. But now I run 30 PSI all around as it feels much better to me.

36f/34r here. I'll run lower on cold or wett courses though. I never go under 30 though. It gets way to mushy.

If 100 people tell "you" this is the size wheel to run and this is what works, why do people continue to go outside that "norm" to test wheels that everyone has already told them won't work. I don't get it.

17x9 +59-63 with a 255/40 work. Period.

If you would like to compare wheel offsets us this site-
http://www.rimsntires.com/specspro.jsp?item=Wheel-Tire size comparer&sw1=255&ar1=40&bd1=17&rw1=9.0&et1=63&sw2= 225&ar2=50&bd2=16&rw2=7.5&et2=52&text1=&text2=

then type in the wheels you want to compare and scroll down the page and click "check it out." Once you do this you can see fender clearance and such. You can only do this on 3 or 4 different offsets before it tell you to buy the $12 "App."

- End of all "what fits" convos.

-thank you

-Josh

PS- this thread should be about wheel weights, tire options and tire comparisions. Also sorry for rant.

The problem with tire pressure conversations is that everyone's gauge reads a different pressure, just like weights and scales. When ever I compare tire pressures at an event we swap gauges so we can tell the difference and take it into account. Otherwise tire pressures are very general comment because of the gauge and so many other conditions.

R-S3 (my gauge = Longacre) 36F/34R psi
Star Spec (my gauge = Longacre) 31F/29R psi

Pressures will vary depending on conditions (wet, dry, grip level, course). Some times I will have different pressures left to right depending on the course (i.e. highest G turns all in one direction).

Hope this helps.
