STR Prep - Wheels and Tires
#241
I don't understand why I'm seeing specs higher than mine to make the RPF1's work.
I'm using 17x9 +45 RPF1's with a 245/40 in front and a 255/40 in the rear (RS-3), with -2.7*F and -3.2*R.
All of my fenders are rolled, and it sits at about a 2 finger gap. I think that I could possibly fit a 255 in the front. What do you gents think?

What are your spring rates and ride height (measured from center of wheel to fender edge)? That wheel's offset, combined with low ride heights and less negative camber reportedly results in fender rub issues. Glad to see yours are doing OK!

They are not pulled; only the inner lip is rolled nearly flat in agreement with STR rules. I really want to run at Packwood next year, and possibly Nationals, so I'm doing my best to stay legal, haha.
In the video you can slightly see where I got a little bit excited with the fender roller, and accidentally bent it outwards a little too much. It was only a very tiny portion. The fronts are VERY thin and need to be folded in very slowly. I had to push it back into place to get the outer contour flat again.
I'm using BC Racing coilovers at 10k/10k, with the OEM '05 FSB, and completely removed rear sway. I usually run with the shocks at full stiff all the way around, but occasionally dial the fronts down (softer) if it pushes too much. The car is very neutral with this setup on the squared tires.
My ride height is at 13.25" front, and 13.5" rear. Now that I think about it, I could just put my 255 rears on the front for fitment testing.
Here are some fitment pictures:
17x9 +45, 245/40F - 255/40R
...and going off topic, but I ran on a buddy's r-comps in exchange for letting him codrive at an event. These wheels had me a bit nervous, but they were fine all day!
18x9 +35 255/35 A6 on the rear. Can't remember front specs, but it was cloooose.

Yes 12.25", that "bunch of clearence" is a illusion due to the angle of the shot. The camera is sitting on the ground. The ground clearence is 3.25" from the ground to the jack points.
here's a couple more pictures showing how low it is, please excuse the dirtyness.
turning away from camera, looks to be about 2" of ground clearence when loaded up! haha

No problem! Just note that it requires custom lenth shock bodies to run this low and not bottom them out over big bumps. At this height I still have probably 2.5" of shock travel. I was bottoming out my shocks last year in the rear and had to spend $$$$ to get shorter custom lenths bodies put on. I've seen a STR car that had the rear set at 12" but I think he might of moved it back up to 12.25" to avoid tire t metal contact risks.
One last pic, at 12.5" the A-arms are parrell with the ground. As you can see mine are alittle lower then that. Them JRZ 3 ways, ball bearing rear bar, and my rusty trailer bracket, gorgeous combo. HaHa Camera once again sitting on the ground.
