Default simple question for the wise

i was reading a bunch of the posts about spinning and wrecking s2000's and someone had this great little slogan about what to do in a spin. it went something like, "when in a spin, both feet in." it's brilliant. ok. so my question is why in a spin both feet in? thanks a lot.

Well,
To you maybe not important or useful. Even stupid....but best to comment other people's post with a (IMO) at the end. No need to flame hard at fellow members ya know?

Why both feet in? Good question.

Remember - both feet in is the response once you are beyond saving the spin. Also know that the worst incidents I've seen have been the result of the driver being stubborn and "saving" a spin all the way across a course and into a wall (where if he'd put both feet in he would have stopped far short of the wall...)

Here's my take on the why's for each foot:

Left Foot In (clutch):
- Prevents drivetrain damage (car still trying to go forward when actually going backward)
- Prevents *embarrassing* post-spin car restart (important for autox when course workers are within earshot)

Right Foot In (brake):
- Brings the car to a stop as quickly as possible
- Keeps the car going in the same direction (momentum drives the direction) - same direction is important in autox for the courseworkers and in roadrace for the other cars on course

To save the transmission. When you're in gear, the car does not like to go backwards, as it can happen when the car's doing 360's.

And the engine wouldn't stall, either.

thanks a lot. now for a follow up question. let's say you're driving down a deserted road in the middle of the night, so there isn't a chance of any corner workers being around, and a deer runs out in front of you, still both feet in or will one do the trick? the one would be going to the brake pedal.
