It matters little since you never come to the track anyway
I ended up ordering a set of HTRZs since Kumho MXs are on backorder. Hence the resurrection of this thread.

Ah I see. The HTRZs are a great street tire imho.
I'm a maybe for SOW on Sep 3rd. I think I have enough tire left to turn a few laps, albeit slowly. Going to need new RA1s for the Buttonwillow Massacre in October.

The tires we chose were 3 sets of Sumitomo HRTZ 245/45R17 front, 275/40R17 rear shaved to 4/32nds tread depth.

Well in all honesty, I should post pics of my 'flared' fenders. At stock ride height, it is not a problem. But lowered, you will need to max the camber and maybe roll the fenders. I used a more crude method...but it worked.

How do the Sumitomos compare to tires such as the Kumho MX and AVS ES100s? I am in the market for some street/track tires in the near future and would like to get something that will keep me competitive in autox and on the track(for a street tire).

while we're asking... what would be the right size setup for a totally stock setup? (no aftermarket sway bar either) I'm guessing I should stick with the 205/55/16 in front, but for the rear would I use the 245/50/16 or 245/45/16? With the latter, could I run a 225/50/16 in front without an aftermarket bar and not screw up the dynamics? Under $400 a set for CB street tires...
