Sear's Point: Sun, 6/29 - Anyone Coming? Rental Cars?
I'm signed up for the HPDE event at Infineon (Sear's Point) on Sunday, 6/29/03. Given that my S lives on the East Coast, I'll be renting something for the day. Will any of the S2Ki community be there? I hooked up with some of the SoCal guys in March at Buttonwillow. It would be fun to do the same with the NoCal group. Also, does anyone have any suggestions for renting something more interesting than a "compact car" from Hertz, Avis, etc. Infineon requires roll hoops, so a Miata is out (as are Mustang convertibles, etc.). I've found an S2000 from Citi Rental, but for $300 for a two-day weekend PLUS mileage charges, it's more than I want to spend.
Thanks and hope to see some of you there.

check in marin, there are some nice rental places there.
6/29 is my bday.
I tend to not run with the NASA group anymore, too many people, too little track time.
Why are you out on this side of the country again?

Btw, It is true that HPDE's are quite full most of the time, but if you either pull up to grid way up in the front or wait till everyone has taken off, you can get a clean track. When you do catch up w/ the traffic, I think it's good practice for wheel to wheel racing without making actual contact(most of the time) as would be the case in actual competition(pic)

Hi Speeding,
Great! Tell me who/what to look for, and I'll keep an eye out. I'll be in a rental car, so it might be harder to find me. They've put me in HPDE 2 with the understanding that if I'm getting held up, they can move me into HPDE 3.
It's also increasingly likely that I won't be driving anything very interesting (or fast), but it won't be the first time, and I'm sure it'll be good fun in any case. I've done rentals at Streets of Willow, Buttonwillow, Beaver Run, and the Nurburgring, sometimes in more interesting machinery than others.
But, yes, I've driven 38 laps over five days at the Ring. Check out

It's all they claim, and I'm trying to line up another trip in August or September to go back.
All the best,

I'll be there as well, but not in my S. (It's mostly retired from track use now.) I'll be driving a red 1st-generation RX-7 in Group 4. Hopefully I'll get tested for my NASA competition license that day.

Great! I'll look for Perry in an RX7 in Group 4. Speeding in his S (Silverstone 00, #242).
I'm likely to be there in an economy rental, as I don't want to pay $350 for something more interesting and it seems harder to rent sports cars in SF than in LA. I picked up an MR2 Spyder for Buttonwillow for $150 for the day. For this event, I'd need to rent for two days, which makes even that deal more dear than it's worth.
I look forward to meeting you both.
Best,
