03 -> 04 motor swap = SSM?
Hey guys, I started AX last year with the ORPCA too late in the season to run for points, but did very well in my stock 2003 AP1. Then in September we had a little mishap and blew the motor. I found a 2004 AP2 motor and had it swapped in, so now am I in SSM? I had the shop do a bunch of other upgrades because it was taking way too long to get the ECU setup working and I didn't want to waste down time. Need my car every day. So what class do you think I'm in with this setup?
I can definitely put the cat back on for meets if the test pipe is an issue.

You can run it in B-street prepared. the AP1 to AP2 drivetrain swap is covered under update/backdate rules. Nothing else on your list would bump you out of street prepared. Many SCCA regions run "Tire" classes, which would put you in TBSP with a 1.8-2.0% PAX adjustment. One very common item that will bump you out of Street Prepared is bumpsteer kits. SSM is mostly boost-buggies, like Robert Thorne's 600+WHP AP2 on 345 Hoosiers!

It looks like it has been a while since anyone posted in this thread. Just wanted to update information, as of 2019 the S2000 (non CR) has been moved from BS to CS in SCCA Autocross Rules.

Its very interesting to read through this thread, I had an 06 sold it for a 911 4S then got into autocross/racing and now have another 06. The car is currently stock with high mileage and I was hoping to keep it in CS, but I'm pretty sure I'll end up in STR or maybe SSM. Question for the group where is the car reasonably competitive? I don't need it to be at a national level, but I would like it to have a bit more than stock as I will also be using the car for HPDE. BTW my main autocross car is now a DM exocet which is in the process of getting a K20 swap and Quaife. Part of me really wants to do something similar (K27) to the S, but I know it doesn't make sense to do that although it would be a lot of fun on the road course
It seems like STR is the right place to go but even that seems to restrict things like bushings and with a 100k/13 year old car I know I'm going to need to fix some things...

I'd vote go STR. You can still do uprated bushings(mugen/spoon/hardrace/ect), and will still make a great HPDE tool.
I had an STR AP1, built an STR AP2 a few years ago. It's a blast but thinking real hard about going BSP next season and I think I can do it fairly cheap. Wheels being the biggest cost sink.
Not exactly the best tool for national competition but might be able to dice it up.
