SlipAngle79 - The only brakes I know of that would reduce weight are the Spoon monoblock calipers for the front. Stock brakes on this car work so well I'm not going to change them any time soon.
not true. I dropped 22lbs with my 4 pot Willwood BBK

Krnmike - I have my bulkhead removed as i am running a harddog with harnesses and the car does not feel effected by its removal. I would estimate it weighs 15lbs.

i've done all the weight reduction i planned to do today:
full soft stop assembly removal (motor + top + all mechanics + all metals)
AC system removal
passenger seat removal
interior carpet removal
trunk layer removal
trunk plastics removal
stock roll bar hoops removal (already done before)
stock roll bar hoop plastic removal (already done before)
secret compartment stuff removal (already done before)

ok anyways, if you look in my car, you will only see:
dash, shift knob
driver's seat (sparco)

it's a strip club!!!

weight reduction calculation:
8.5 (aftermarket intake) AEM
23.6 AC system
33 passenger seat
50 interior deadening / trunk panels
18 (aftermarket wheels) rough estimate
78 soft top
8 interior carpet
? stock roll bar hoops removal (replace w/Elda Eng. roll bar)
? stock roll bar hoop plastic removal
? secret compartment stuff removal
? aftermarket coilovers (JRZ)

total weight loss:
roughly 219 lbs (not including the missing weights)

s2k factory curb weight:
2,809 lbs

current weight (still alot of numbers missing)
2,809 - 219 = 2,590 lbs

calculations missing:
stock roll bar hoops
center consol plastics (the wind deflector and glovebox looking stuff)
driver's seat removal (aftermarket seat)
nice thread and awesome write up to the OP!!! do you guys think getting an S2K down to 1900+ lbs would be possible? i think the BC car clocks in around 2050lbs or something. does anybody here know what the lightest S2k on record is? i am very curious.

thanks...

yes it can be done with replacing a bunch of the frame w/ tubes, add some cf and lose the roof should be no problem.

My s2k w/o the blower or me in it weighs in at 2300lbs. Thats wet and ready to race using oem body panels and a full roll cage.

I really hate to do it but I must...... I have been to quiet a few track events, enough to notice that some have a good 50lbs to loose off their guts. For those you are serious enough of a racer that 3 or 5 lbs here and there is so important why not get on the treadmill a few days a week and you have a great way of making your car lighter. And this is a free mod. I only weigh 165lbs, that is already a 50-100lb weight savings from most. Why not work this from both ends of the spectrum (your weight reduction + cars weight reduction). I run ab classes as side job thing so by my nature I really couldn't help it sorry....

I am also looking to cut some weight from my s2000, but I am looking for things that would decrease weight without taking away too much of the cars features.
(i.e. - I would - carbon fiber hood, trunk, light weight performance parts, etc
I would not- a/c removal, stereo removal, etc). Any suggestions as how to reduce weight that would not comprise daily drive ability?
