My hitch receiver is a custom part welded to the bumper. Cheap, light, hidden, works. However, I only carry one bike at a time, the heaviest being less than 24 lbs.
thats really cool!!

I wish my BMX bikes weighed less than 24 lbs each

MikeGarrison is correct.

You should get the Chase hitch. It requires no drilling, and can be completely removed from the car. Installation (including removing the bumper) is not that hard. I'm very slow at these things and it took about 1.5 hours.

When your not using it, you remove the receiver with 3 pins (takes 3 minutes), leaving only 3 brackets on your car that weigh only 7 pounds.

I also am using the hitch from Chase Race. It works very well. I am using a tiretail to carry tires which they built custom since I was the first 2004+ model with the Chase Race hitch. Much happier than when I tried a trailer.

I have a custom 1/4" receiver like Gearhead's that I use for one bike and also for a tire trailer. It's awesome because once you put the license plate on, it's totally hidden.

I've been using it for about a year and have no problems (other than the fact that my bike rack was homemade and so I've had some challenges learning how to strap it on so it won't get blown askew from the wind). The hitch place said it should be good for 500-750 lbs. I think the total weight of the hitch is about 4-5 lbs.
