hey gang, and track whores

after having my own s2k laguna blue mugen s2000 few years back.

ive seen some cool s2ks

and what is thought id never see was an s2k at the track on airrex airbags....unbelievable..

i wanted to share with the bay area community, that is exactly what happened this past weekend.

n1 racing also known as n1 concepts took their j's s2000 to buttonwillow and put down a 1:53 time with traffic.

and this was an off the couch session.

few facts: this is a track air suspension and only one in the country.

new driver, new setup, car has been raced in many moons, new aero setup, so many things against them.

when the car was at its prime it did a 1:51 after a full season and with the a prior driver.

so once all the kinks are worked out we will see what new time can be reached.

the car is available to be seen anytime during normal hours an n1 concepts in hayward, ca

that's pretty awesome. How much weight was added vs traditional suspension setup?

N1 saying about 30 to 40 lbs compared to coilovers.

but they were all smiles for the ease added when working on the car and loading onto trailer...by using airbags to lift the car...

so once they regain there old time...the wieght diff should not be a factor

This is a testing project so as info and news comes in will update this thread......

i will add that they did not expect a 153 result...so evryone is very optimistic

Compound of tires? Size of tires? Size of wheels? How much power (some sort of FI i'm assuming)?

I'd like to see some back to back testing versus a decent set of shocks - JRZ/Penske. Or Tein SRCs (which are proven at that track).

Either way, impressive laptime.

This car's main trick is lightweight. It used to run the J's CRUX coil overs. That was a very different car though really. Honestly airbags on a race car makes zero sense to me at all. I don't really see any benefits just compromises?

Guys I don't think the idea is to demonstrate that air suspension is superior to conventional suspension, just that the air suspension they're selling is not as much of a hindrance as conventional wisdom states...

Conventional wisdom states that they're heavy and suffer from heat issues in endurance use. We've confirmed they're heavier, and we don't know what they're like for endurance. But we can guess.
