Default Road Race Compounds on AutoX

I figured I may get better responses here than on the tire forum for this. So, I have a set of Hoosier Road Race compounds and I'm going to mount them for track days on an extra set of wheels, no questions there. However I was wondering if anyone had experience or opinions on using them for auto cross. I know they wont heat up as fast, but at the same time I wonder if they will be superior to my SO2s (which I love, and have always been fast on) Think I should just stick with street tires? Or wil the Hoosiers be significantly faster? They are 225/50s up front and 245/45s out back by the way, and I'm running -1.5 and -2.5 camber front and rear respectively

Faster than street tires, slower than autocross compounds.

Somewhere around victoracer probably.

And they will last forever, since they never get hot

I'm not sure, but there may be another benefit. My R comps seem to communicate a lot better than my street tires. Even driving slower, the car feels so much better. I'm not sure if you'll get this same effect without bringing your tires all the way up to temp, but it's worth trying. How about you try it and report back for us?

I've thought about doing the same thing, for wear reasons. Like using R6s at most events and practices, and A6s for tours and divisionals. My only concern is how long the A6s would last in storage before getting slow.

I probably will try it out, though they have not been used in over a year, but the were sitting in a spare bedroom so no temperature issues at least.

I've run them so yes I know they work from experience. the marginally slower I haven't tested but is what other auto-xers told me.

I had to switch from Hoosier A compounds to R compounds a few years back when they discontinued my size. I honestly didn't see much difference. I was still very competitive locally against cars with the autocross compound.

By "very competive" it means he kicked our axxes. If you run back to back you will heat up the r compound.

Nah, I've always run A compounds on the S. The R compounds were on my X1/9 when I couldn't get a 185/60-13 in the autocross compound. Now it's hard to find ANY tire in a 185/60-13!
