I looked at that too. But you'd have to cage up your car, which means you will look stupid if it is your daily driver. oh well...

Member's Handbook

Touring Car Racing Association's handbook is a complete guide to TCRA's rules and regulations as well as being a general racing reference. If you want a printed version of this handbook, call, e-mail, or ask for one at the track during registration.

Contents:

Event Rules and Regulations
TCRA Licensing Requirements
Driver's Gear Requirements - please see changes posted Feb 28, 2001
Car Equipment Requirements - please see changes posted Feb 28, 2001

TCRA Rules and Regulations

All participants (drivers) must wear the TCRA supplied wrist bands at all times while within the track facility. The run group color decal and tech inspection sticker must be displayed on the outside, upper, driver's side corner of the front windshield before entering the pre-grid area of the track.

No one is allowed to carry passengers in the race group. Passengers may be permitted during time trial practice sessions, but only with the express permission of the race steward.

The speed limit for all vehicles at all times within the track facility is 5 mph unless otherwise posted on access roads.

All drivers must obey all flag signals. It is the driver's responsibility to make sure that the flag signals are understood.

For time trial and school entrants, all passing during driving sessions must be started and completed within specified passing zones. All passing rules and regulations must be obeyed, and they will be strictly enforced.

For any car contact, the 13/13 rule will apply. This rule will be vigorously enforced.

Any incident where the driver gets all four wheels off the track, must come to the hot pit black flag station for inspection immediately. Safely reenter the track, and continue on the track if possible all the way around in the direction of the traffic and come to a stop at the black flag station.

Off track and/or spin outs three times in one day is cause for removal from the remainder of that day's driving sessions.(Drive to the limit of youir ability and the limit of your car.)

Black flag given twice in one day is cause for removal from the remainder of that day's driving sessions.

In the event of a protest or disagreement, the race steward will make the final decision, there is no higher appeal.

Any physical or verbal abuse against any participant or race officials will be cause for ejection from the event without refund or credit. This will not be tolerated, and will be strictly enforced.

The participants guests are the responsibility of the participant including all adults, children, and pets. Their conduct will affect your participation. Be sure they are aware of all TCRA and track rules and restricted zones of the track facility.

TCRA Licensing Requirements

TCRA utilizes a tiered licensing system. By demonstrating competence at a lower level of competition, the driver will be allowed a provisional advancement to the next level. The ultimate decision to grant a time trial and/or race group license lies with the Chief Driving Instructor.

To compete in the TCRA Time Trials Group, the driver must complete the following:

Succesfully complete a TCRA school, hold a time trial license from another approved organization (BMWCCA, Alpha Club, Porche Owners Club, etc.), or have completed an approved driving school (Bondurant, Barber, Russell, etc.). You must show your license or proof of school completion during registration--there will not be any exceptions to this.
Compete in the Time Trial group with a novice X on the rear of the car (racer's tape or other decal) for two events
Have a TCRA instructor approve the request.
To hold a TCRA Time Trials License, the driver must complete the following:

Succesfully complete two Time Trial events without incident with a novice X on the car
Have a TCRA instructor approve the request.
To hold a TCRA Race Group License, the driver must complete the following:

Hold a racing license from an approved organization (SCCA, VARA, NASA, POC, BMWCCA, etc.), or hold a TCRA Time Trials License. You must show your current racing license during registration--there will not be any exceptions to this.
Succesfully complete two Race Events without incident with a novice X on the car
Have a TCRA instructor approve the request.

TCRA Driver Safety Requirements

At every event, the driver must conform to these safety requirements (colored items updated Feb 28, 2001):

All drivers must wear an SA95 or higher rated car helmet. No motorcycle helmets are allowed for time trial or race group sessions. (A special one-time reprieve of the motorcycle helmet rule is allowed for first-time drivers attending the TCRA school).
Time trial and school drivers at a minimum must wear a long-sleeved shirt, and long pants. (Shirt, pants, and under clothes should be 100% natural fibers (i.e. cotton or wool). The intent is to provide some skin protection from heat and flame without resorting to a fire retardant driver's suit. Synthetic fibers will melt and stick to the skin. We aren't going to check the labels, but do yourself a favor and wear natural fibers.)
All drivers must wear closed gloves that cover the entire hand to at least the wrist, and shoes that cover the entire foot (no open-toe shoes or sandals). (Fire retardant racing gloves and shoes are highly recommended).
Additional requirements for Race Group Drivers:

All race group drivers must wear a one-piece, fire-retardant racing suit of two or more layers.
All race group drivers must wear fire-retardant driving shoes and gloves

TCRA Vehicle Requirements

At every event, the driver's vehicle must conform to these safety requirements:

All vehicles must pass the TCRA inspection. Check the current form for items that must be inspected.
Closed vehicles in the Time Trial and School groups will not require a roll bar. "Targa" style bodies (i.e. Porche, Corvette, Viper) which have a permanent rear window and partial roof do not require a roll bar for Time Trial sessions. All convertibles, including those with factory roll hoops (i.e. Z3, Miata, Porsche Boxster, etc.) MUST have a 4-point roll bar to participate in Time Trial and School events.
All loose items must be removed from the vehicle (floor mats, contents of center consoles and glove boxes, books, pencils, tapes/CDs, etc. The spare tire and jack hardware should also be removed).
All vehicle light lenses are recommended to be taped (note that some tracks may require this).
All vehicles must have the TCRA vehicle number clearly marked on both sides of the car body or rear side window panels. All car numbers are to be at least 10" in height and of a color which contrasts sharply with the car's color.
Time trialers may want to install a timing transponder in their cars to have TCRA automatically time their laps. This transponder is required to participate in the formally timed runs at the end of the weekend.
Additional requirements for Race Group Vehicles (red items updated Feb 28, 2001, green items updated July 9, 2001):

All race group vehicles must have a 4-point minimum, SCCA approved, roll bar (with a horizonal bar), a 6-point cage is recommended. Roll bars in convertibles or Targa-style roofs must extend above the driver's head with helmet on. Roll bars in hardtop cars must be fitted as close to the roof as possible.
All race group vehicles must have a 2.5lb fire extinguisher mounted inside the car. An on-board fire suppression system is strongly recommended.
All race group vehicles must have a kill switch mounted externally, or within easy reach from the passenger window area (i.e. on the front pillar of a 6-point cage).
All race groups vehicles must have a solid one piece SFI or FIA approved racing seat
All race group vehicles must have a 5-point driver harness.SFI or FIA approved
All race group vehicles must have either window nets or arm straps. Convertible or Targo-top vehicles in a race group must have arm straps.
All cars must have a timing transponder in order to be official timed and scored during the race events.
