rallcage question
I'm in the middle of building a race car out of an ap1.
They started my cage but have run into problems with making it to meet the rules.
dose any one have pictures if their cage they could send me, either post or email.
garry@deadstock.ca
the problem is that the rollover hoop is supposed to have no bend in the poles going down to
the floor but there is no room to make the straight, do you mount the rollover hoop to the
rear deck rather then to the floor? and if that is what you do how did you attach the door bars?
not much room in this car for adding a cage.
any pics would help out a bunch.
PS I'm in Vancouver, Canada and I have not found anyone with experience building a cage in this car here.
thanks

And yes, almost everybody brings their main hoop down to the rear deck rather than the floor.

I'm building it to the scca rules. There is only one track on the vancouver area and it's more like a big Kart track so I hav eto build it to be able to run in US events.
I'll take a picture of the roll bar they have already installed to explain the problem better.
cthree, you cage looks pretty perfect. I looked at all of your pics but I can't see the polls going down. any chance you a have a photo of the door bars attaching behind your seat?

I think there are pics on this web page:
www.tcdesignfab.com
"Custom Projects" -> "Other Projects"
I believe the cages there are SCCA-legal, but I'm not certain since the "side" hoops appear to have 3 bends, but SCCA limits you to 2, unless you use the next larger diameter tubing.
Also, do a search in this forum or in "The Gallery". I know I've seen threads with pics of all types of roll cages.

3 bends in the forward hoops and 4 bends in the main hoop iirc.

those were the exact pictures I was looking for.
the guys who started to build mine thought the door bars needed to attach to the
down pipes of the roll bar so the had to bend the bar about two feet from the bottom to
make it reach the floor.
that's the bends I was talking about, not the bends that make the 90 deg corner at the top.
thanks for your help guys.

Note that the new, proposed roll cage rules for next year (published in the July Fastrack, updated in the August Fastrack) remove the restrictions about max number of bends. I have checked with the club and this is by design, not an oversight.
