You may want to say what group you plan on running with, NASA or SCCA. If you have an instructor it would be nice to provide your instructor with the same safty as you. I bought some F1 Spec II seats to get me through the levels, not FIA approved so I will have to use seat back braces. I have not mounted them yet as the car has not been stripped, but soon.
I don't recall seeing any W2W cars with a passenger seat installed. I think most of those guys sold them once at that level. I would just get a basic, safe race seat with 5 or 6 point harness for the other side that is re-sellable once you progress into the ranks of TT or W2W. At least that is what I'm doing with the F1 Spec seats.
fit me fine and especially in the shoulder area. I broke that area not too long ago so my old seat (recaro pole positions) hugged too much on the shoulder. The SPG hugs more on the lower half of the body.
I measured the gain in headroom, and it is at least 1.5". I say at least because after I took this picture and started driving around in my seat, the seat cushion compressed under my weight as I settled in, and I noticed a definite drop, maybe another .5". Didn't want to take another series of pictures and re-install/uninstall the stock seat again.
I was curious how much additional lowering I could get if the seat actually rested on the floor. So I unbolted the rear bolts (while keeping the front bolts in place) and sat down on the seat so that the seat pivoted about the front bolts and the rear of the seats were lowered all the way to the floor. I carefully got out of the seat and measured the amount of lowering, and it came out to be a little more than 1/4". I suspect that Taitec designed these rails with a bit of clearance so that you can slide the seats forward.
To use the stock seatbelt assembly, I had to drill a hole in the bracket (as outlined by Apex_AP1's thread on a different mount).
Opinion: The seats are fantastic! Only thing, since I have a long torso, the shoulder belt holes are a bit lower than I'd like. It's not a problem for me just yet, since I use the stock 3-pt belts. The seats are comfortable enough to use on a daily driver. I don't see myself ever going back to the stock seats.
Marcus I do have an extra seat that i occasionally put in for passengers or for a instructor. For that seat i would just find an used cheap seat/ 5 point harness. Or you can use your oem seat with the oem seat belt--some people--not most--get bent out of shape with that idea--but not most--esp for a de situation. Just remember not to remove your passenger seat belt mechanism and to leave the seat in during the cage build. Probably easiest to just sell both seats and get a used setup for the pass side.
