Race Engine
#1
Hi guys, looking for a race engine for use in an old IMSA car. The car is a Dodge Daytona but the engine in there needs a light valve job every 2 hours or so and because of that is not really practical for the level of racing we're participating in. We need something small, light, low torque (so as not to overcome the Hewland FT-200 gearbox - about 220lb/ft max) high-revving, high horsepower and preferably the endurance to go 30 hours - an hour or 2 at a time (a season of racing for us) between rebuilds. What better than an S2k engine.
Who builds really bad-ass S2k engines, perhaps over 2L in size and not restricted by Japanese N1 rules? What sort of horsepower and torque numbers can we expect?
Thanks in advance
Gary

It may appear at the next OTC as long as they don't allow those nasty radical thingies. The Fiero was actually reasonably quick once when it ran but considering that it only finished 3 of the first 28 sessions and on the 28th had a 140mph tyre blow out, that's why it didn't do well.
We were on the pole out of 50 cars for the Vancouver Molson Indy support race, if that means anything!? (Until a tyre let go on the second lap and the car hit the wall at 60mph, got hit by another car and driven into another wall at 50mph. ) Now the Fiero is... resting. Maybe dead.
Careful with that stick Mr... We'll bring back the 914 and win the OTC like we did the first year.

hehe, I'll refrain from more comments.... But I will say that we were significantly faster every day that the fiero was running On a stock s2k motor I'm supprised you didn't bring the 914-6 back this year. Why mess w/ a winning combo?
As for highly tuned s2k engines there aren't a lot of them out there. You might want to talk to Alianz (might have spelled that wrong)
There may be more modification potention of the new 2.2L engine, but that remains to be seen.

That Fiero was FAAAAAST in a straight line. Oh man.
I put together a little outtakes video from this year - there's a part where you guys pull away from me in Dave Kennedy's 2400lb supercharged S2000 at Pahrump like I was in neutral...
Haven't seen much over 230-240whp NA out of the S2000's F20C. Recently saw an Acura RSX whose K20C was tuned to deliver 270+whp with a nice torque curve. It uses a slightly more sophisticated valve actuation called i-VTEC. They each spin different ways, so if you want to use one the decision may have to be made based on that.
Hope to see you guys out there next year!

Definitely look into getting a K20A motor from a DC5 Integra Type R, or a K20A2 from an RSX Type S. Way better potential than the F20C motor (if there were a way to put one in my S2000, I would do it in a second!)

That's pretty good to hear. Don't know what we're going to do, if we are even going to next year's OTC. Only time will tell I guess.
Thanks for the Vid JZR, jeez, the Fiero WAS slow around corners. We hadn't even had a chance to set camber properly or corner weight the car, let alone start experimenting with shock setup or spring rates.
I'll keep you posted if we are going to return!
