It makes a huge diff in how our car handles on the track. I'm going to Darrin for my yearly tweaking later this month. Going -2.5 in the rear this time. (just flipped the street tires... might as well get them even fast )

btw... FWIW There have been times I knew I had shaved a second or two off my laptime only to be proved wrong by the timing sheet. I've used timing since my first event. While it doesn't provide the kind of turn by turn telemetry that would be of greatest help, I've found it to be the next best thing.

Oh... and I don't think anyone's saying you can't get faster w/out timing. As Rylan stated above: [QUOTE=krazik,Mar 11 2005, 10:13 AM]...you guys imo could have gotten faster, quicker, with it.

Forgetting alignment is a big 'duh. I used to go to a specialty shop that charged $90 for a four wheel alignment. Last fall on a friend's recommendation I signed up for the lifetime alignment at Firestone for about $160. Unlimited four wheel alignments at any Firestone shop.

I've gone in a couple of times for a track alignment on a Thu and brought the car back in on Mon to set it back to street.

Video is another excellent suggestion. I could never get my camcorder to be as stable as I liked, even when I mounted using a camera mounted welded to my rollbar. I ended up buying a Sony bullet cam (little 1.5" cam) that plugs into the A/V inputs on your camcorder. It's rock steady with 480 line color resolution.

I'd be a little concerned about getting a $10 alignment every time I went there. But if you have a good relationship with them and you trust the techs, it sounds like a great deal.

So far so good. I shared your concern. I had a couple of alignments double-checked by a friend that is the general manager for a few WheelWorks shops (same friend that recommended it to me). Alignments were spot on.

Nice thing with it is you can also take the car into a firestone in any city. Same question of quality of work applies though ...

Agreed that we in the Northwest would probably progress faster if timing was more available/used/tought.

Also agreed that checking/setting alignment is a top checklist item.

Jerry P is a prime example. if he had timing he -might- be fast.

So is the PNW group coming down to Buttonwillow for the 3-day Speed Ventures event Sept 30-Oct 2, or to any of the Willow Springs big track weekend in the summer? Would be great to have you guys were here.

How hard/expensive would it be to rent a decent car? Flying really does make more sense.

Yet you won't trade cars to back that statement up.
