Oil temp @ cylinder head vs oil pan
I'm currently running a oil temp sensor tapped into my oil drain plug and thinking of relocating it somewhere else. Changing the oil has become somewhat more complicated due to the sensor location.
What is the community's feeling about using the cylinder head port (where the oil pressure sending unit resides)? I've heard there isn't enough flow at the cyl head location and won't get you a proper temp readout.
Also, what are the temperature gradients I can expect at these two locations? I'm currently hitting consistent 250F at the oil pan. What can I expect to read at the cylinder head?

On the engine dynamometers I test on at work we have oil temp sensors in both the sump and in the oil 'galley'. The difference in temps between these two locations is typically within 1.5 degree C. Not sure if that helps you?

I put my oil temp sending unit at the oil filter using an adapter plate. It works great for me and put the oil pressure sending unit there too. Cannot remember the brand I used though, lots of choices.

With my setup (411hp SC+custom oil cooler) the highest on track temperature I have seen so far was 210f with my temp sensor in the oil pan (sump)
