Who has a line on inexpensive (less the $700) stock dimension wheels for Autox and time trial use.
Do I need to have them custom built??

Chuck,

Unfortunatly, unless something has changed recently, you're only choice for stock sized (as in, legal for Solo II "Stock" category) wheels are either the standard factory wheels, or the "other" factory wheel available as an option in Japan (Europe too? I forget). Neither choice is particularly cheap, unless by that $700 figure you mentioned, you were talking about $700 per wheel. The factory wheels can be had for about $300 each, new. The Japanese wheels are going to be more... exactly how much more is probably a good question. Some of us got in on a group buy through MG Racing and got a pretty good deal. They're probably the best place to start if you're interested in the JDM wheels.

If you can find another option, I (and just about everyone else on this board) would love to hear about it. Over the last year I've called just about every wheel manufacturer that I could get a phone number for... twice... to see if they could make Solo II legal wheels for the S2000. For one reason or another, the answer has always been no. The typical responses are: 1) we cant handle that offset, 2) we dont make 16's anymore, 3) our centers wont clear the calipers, and 4) "you need the offset to be *what*!?!?"

Wish I had better news for you.

Thanks for your input Jason, I was afraid of that answer.
Looks like I'll be spending some time over at the Group Buy and For Sale forum looking for a set of stock wheels.

....if the Japanese model is 1/2 in. wider than our OEMs,as I think they are, should they not be illegal in A-stock ?

The JDM BBS wheels are stock dimensions, just lighter and stronger.

You could also buy some "cheaper" aftermarket wheels for daily/road use, then use the stock wheels w/ race tires for autoX. There are some aftermarket options that are less $$ than a set of OEMs.

One of the reasons that I went with aftermarket wheels for the street was to free up my stock wheels for autocross tires (Kumho Victoracer 700).

In hindsight, it would have been cheaper to buy a new set of stock wheels, but I wanted 17" wheels/tires for the street anyway and it made a good excuse to buy them ...

"But honey if I continue to autocross on the stock tires I'll need a new set of $225 tires every two months!"

My search ended with a set of OEM wheels found over in the group buy forum.
They came with SO2 with very little milage.
I'll just recycle them when my original wear out.

Buying a set of 17s for the street and using the stock wheels for auto-x is a good plan.

What is the most cost-effective set of 17" wheels to buy for the street? I'm looking for 17x7.5 and 17x8.5 size..

In those sizes, Volk TE 37 are the only ones I am aware of, not too cost effective though. Light as hell
