Need help with brake set-up for FIA circuit
Please have a look at our local race track:
Dubai Autodrome
There are two straight where you reach 150mph and need to slow down into 3rd and 2nd gear. Stock brakes are toasted after 3 laps. This is not your average tight road course, this is a FIA aproved GT racing race track that is realy hard on brakes. I am planing to track-day it again after 2 years.
My upgrades so far:
Rear Endless rotors/front stock (Spoon cracked)
Neuspeed SS brake lines
5.1 DOT fluid
I was planing to get the EBC Red Stuff pads since my brother has them on his EVO8 and they last for 3 trackdays (6 x 20min. in one trackday). Any comments on them?
1.How good are the Cobalt GT-Sports pads for this purpose?
2.I know that many of you still keep the stock calipers and I don't want to upgrade stuff for the bling factor. But if there is some set-up that is better than stock (Willwood, Stop-Tech ,Brembo ) please let me know.
3.Is there any benefit from removing the dust shields? Does it really provide better cooling?
4. What rotors are a good choise with some race-spec pads?

It's all about the pads...
I can toast most stock pads in a few laps. Race pads will work much longer. (usually until you wear them out 15 hours?)
Cobalts are very hard to get right now. Look at Hawk Blue/HT10, or any of the full race pads. That and a couple of cooling ducts and you'll be good to go (Really).

I have never used anything but stock rotors and usually Carbotech XP9 or XP10 brake pads..... not sure what the similar number is for Hawk pads....2.5" brake ducting from those little fog light looking things in the bumper....
We hit ~135-140mph down the front of summit point.....

Race pads and stock rotors/calipers seem to work fine, even for tracks that are very hard on brakes.
I also added brake ducting to the front, which might not hurt. It's not a replacement for using race pads, but it should add some margin.

Race pads plus stock rotors are fine for a day at any track. Ducting the fronts will not so much improve performance as simply reduce the frequency they need to be replaced. The solid rear rotors will last forever.

Also... What is the temperature rating of the 5.1 fluid you are using?
I suspect you'll need to flush that stuff out and replace it with a real DOT 4 race fluid.
MOTUL or ATE Super Blue should be available to you.

speaking of stock rotors, can the stock front (AP1) rotors be put on the rear? will it fit? is it safe?
Hell on my race S2000 I only go through 1 set of rear pads for a full season (7 race weekends).... fronts go much quicker....
