NASA-X AUTOCROSS PROGRAM TO BEGIN IN MEMPHIS IN 2012

After an exciting inaugural season of track events, the Mid South region of the National Auto Sport Association (NASA) is adding a ten event autocross schedule in 2012 through the NASA-X program with all events planned to be held at the Millington Regional Jetport.

December 12, 2011 - Munford, TN – Based on feedback from racers, the National Auto Sport Association’s Mid South region has decided to add an autocross program to go along with its road course track events.

Shawn Taylor, Regional Director, commented, “We are pleased to introduce the NASA-X autocross program to the Mid South region’s calendar of events for 2012. We have assembled both an experienced and professional team that has held successful autocross events in the Memphis area and look forward to introducing even more racers to the fastest growing motorsports event sanctioning body in the US. We received overwhelming positive feedback from our 2011 track events and look forward to increasing the awareness of the NASA brand in 2012. The autocross program provides an obvious first step into our High Performance Driving Event ladder system as well as our Time Trial and wheel to wheel Racing programs.”

The autocross program will be led by Michael Morris as Mid South region Autocross Director. Michael states “NASA-X Autocross is a great way to learn about the limits of your car and the limits of your ability to drive that car while in a safe, controlled environment. Not to mention it is a lot of fun“.

I wonder if some of these will be held at Blytheville. Gawd, I'm going to go broke with all these traveling autocross events!!

All of the events scheduled for next year, are 2 day, 2 separately scored events at the Millington airport. Sticky asphalt surface, good grip easy on tires. Blytheville is a possibility for a future event.

 

Whitt does this mean no more SCCA events in Memphis?

 

There will still be SCCA Solo events in Memphis. I plan to run both series. Plus the SCCA National Tour events in Blytheville.

 

Millington airport as in Millington, TN? Within 6 hours of my house, you got my attention.

 

Millington Jetport, the Naval air station was turned over to the city. We run on a no longer used landing strip and can do course layouts similar in size to Blytheville. The local Porsche club does 3rd gear events.

 

Mmm 3rd gear, wonder what that feels like?
