Default Loose Lugs after each lapping session

Just got back from an HPDE day at Pocono. After each 20 minute session I would let everything cool down for an hour or more, then check my lug nuts. The rears were always fine. The front, where I have a 3mm spacer, required tightening after each session. They were not insanely loose as if the wheel was going to fall off, but they did require torquing to get to 80lbs.

Can anyone give me any insight into what is happening. Is it the 3mm spacers? Any actions I should take?

Thanks for any help.

Sounds like there's not enough threads available to maintain the torque due to the spacers. There are longer studs available for just this purpose...

Yep, sounds like a reasonable explanation.

Don't forget that longer studs usually entail going to "open" lug nuts as well since enclosed lug nuts won't be able to secure the wheel before bottoming out internally.

My Volk's loosen as well. Make sure you torque them between sessions. 17" CE28N's with no spacers. I think the Volk nuts suck. Get some better ones.

Never had any problem with mine in thousands of track miles (but then I don't run -4* camber which might contribute?).

I don't think you drive fast enough to experience the problem

Never had that happen with mine, either, in about 25 track days.

Then again, I don't drive very fast, either.

Thanks for all the replies. I'm not so sure it's the Volk lugs because the rears ones were fine. Only running -1.3* in the front anyway. I think it's because of the spacer.

Are you using the lightweight RAYS aluminum lug nuts? They do tend to expand more than the steel and require checking often.

cheers
