Kumho Ecsta V700 now being made in 245/45/16
I noticed on Tire Rack the V700 is now being made in the 245/45/16 size. This combined with the already available 225/50/16 makes the Ecsta an interesting option for us S2000 owners. The word is that newer Ecsta batches have the harder compound (K9 I believe) so I am wondering if these Ecstas would wear and be resistant to heat cycles like a Toyo RA-1.

The Ecsta V700 is not a very good tire - they're not very grippy, don't have a very stiff sidewall, and have to be shaven down to avoid chunking.
I'd stick with the Victoracers if you plan on autocrossing at all, or the RA1 for the track.

Kumho IMHO doesn't make good tires. Maybe I'm just jaded by my experience with them and maybe there are some golden nuggets but on the whole you are probably best not to bother.
If you want RA1s then get them, they are fantastic. I hear Victoracers are good for autox, they sure suck on the track. The V700s aren't supposed to be good for anything.

Hmm. My experience with the Ecsta V700s has been distinctly different than the others who posted so far. I've run Kumhos for three seasons on my M3 - first on Victoracers, then two sets of the V700s (so I've run both the K8A and the newer K6A rubber compounds.) I've loved the tires, the Ecstas even more so than the Victoracers. With them, I usually set FTD or am very competitive.
The Victos will definitely last longer than the Ecstas, but I've found that I heat cycle the tires to death well before they run out of tread. My tires start out full tread and heatcycled. If you don't have enough camber, the Ecstas can wear a little strangely at first. My experience has been that the wear evens out over time.
All of this pertains to autocross, BTW. On the track, people have not had good experiences with the Ecsta - I would recommend that you stick with the Victoracers in that case.
The DOT-R Kumhos are excellent tires for the price, IMHO.
