I thought about the Hoosiers but the Kumhos were cheaper and suppost to last longer, so I thought for my first set I would get these.

What about the A6s do you like so much better?
The Kumhos are good for "local" autocross events and are a great place to start for R-comp tires. If you are going to divisional/national tour events and want to be competitive then you gotta have the A6s.

The 710s will last you six months if you do two events per month. The A6s are only satisfying for a few events in my book then they fall off quickly.

If money is no object then get the A6s!

Really? General consensus is the other way around...

When I tried to run v710s on a National level ('07) they were junk after 20+ runs (3 events). Every A6 I have used had grip all the way to the cord. They do fall off on that last 32nd though.

From my experience A6s drop off after ~50-80 runs. At that point, they generate grip similar to a top tier street tire. Mine don't cord until ~130-150 runs because of the sizes we run.

If your Hoosiers cord after 60 runs... well, there you go.

I personally didn't feel like I gained much speed when I switched to the Hoosiers from the Kumhos. The main reason for the switch was the desire to not destroy my fender liners, and the Hoosiers came in a shorter size.

The Kumhos did lose some performance after 65+ runs (on abrasive concrete, mostly. But you have to consider that I haven't had a set of Hoosiers make it past 60 runs, and they definitely suffer when they get close to the cords. Especially on pavement with some loose grit on the surface.

I may switch back to Kumho this year, since they are making a 245/40-17 now. That is unless I decide to plunge into STR in my new region.

I stand corrected. I was counting events with a co-driver, so 6 equivalent events not 3 as I stated. That would be close to the 60 you mention. The other thing with Hoosiers is that it's best to flip them to avoid cording the shoulder. Based on my experience and others around me this should be done every 30 runs or so until they cord.

Don't get me wrong. Hoosiers are the tire to have to be competitive, I just think the Kumhos are easier to deal with for local events and last longer overall.

I'm just happy I am going to STR so I won't have to buy so many tires any more.
